The Electric Vehicle Thread

So what you’re saying is you wouldn’t chance a drive back to Loop Head, not unless there was a 25kph wind was out of the southwest.

Anyone have an ioniq 5?

I drove from Gorey to Tullow and onto Carlow there a few weeks back. A road that takes you through places that time has forgotten like Carnew and Shillelagh and my route home took me through Tinahely to take care of some business.

I copped that nearly every little shitty village now had 2 EV chargers in them, mainly ESB ones. I doubt they’re high speed but if you get stranded in somewhere like Shillelagh you’ve only yourself to blame. The network is a lot better than you would think. I’d say it’s impossible to drive more than 20 mins without having access to a public charger close to your route.

I’ first drove one in Romania :romania: yearrrrssss back
And the Dacia never let us down up mountains ir mud roads in temp minus 15 at times ,
Basic like myself

What range do you meed

For comfort, you’ll find it hard to better the Kia EV-6 or an Audi e-tron. Depends on what kind of range you’re looking for. For example the Audi Q4 is lovely but only gives around 340km in the 40 spec. You’ll need to go up to the 45 for a 77-82 Kw battery and you’re looking at a tidy increase in cost.

The daughter has a Citroen e-C4 and it’s absolutely perfect for tipping around. About 350km range and extremely comfortable. You should be able to pick up a 241 or 242 within your budget parameters. Fine car.

Appreciate your advice
I’m trading in my banger so I gave only about 15 k cash to play with
16k at a stretch
In Cork they give f all on a trbh

We bought an EC4 last year, 251 ex demo model so we were lucky to pick it up at a good price.

Herself uses it for the school run, darting into town etc, basically local driving and its ideal for that and easy to park as well.

The 350k range is accurate enough until you bring it out on the motorway and are going 120kph, in fact anything above 100kph is when the battery starts sinking like a stone.

Great car though, ideal for short/medium distance trips.

Same with petrol though

Eamo showed how ineffective driving at 120kph was

Stick it in cruise at 85/90

Yep true, but filling up with petrol or diesel is a simple process when on longer journeys. Recharging an EV not so much, chargers occupied for long periods, some not working, sitting around the car park waiting for one to become available etc.

It’s almost as if people know that so built a network of refueling points all over the country.

Weird that people would deliberately drive a less than maximum efficiency though
