My great Grandfather and his brother were amongst the 322. They both came home that September according to my Grandmother. Good hurling men as well.
Only young lads at the time, but immensely proud to be of their stock.

My greatgrand father spent time there and returned in poor health and died in his early 50s.
I wasn’t from A rugby area at all but Simon was the first player that I ever liked or admired… He seemed to have a short enough career though… I thought he was class
I always thought he was English. What shortened his career… Was it injuries
Would Kilnadeema be just another take on the place name Kildimo in Limerick?
Same as myself. The price of East Galway pace is East Galway feet.
Always liked him as a player. A entire 5 Nations would go by without him receiving a pass. He was deadly the odd time he did get it.
Remember reading an interview of him a few years back. It was injuries that curtailed his career. I believe he had a ‘good job’ in finance in London. So professional rugby wages might have been a wage cut for him.
Kylenedeema
It was toe injuries that did for him. He had a very distinctive up on his toes type running style. Apparently it led to long term wear and tear on his big toes. He was a joy to watch when there wasn’t much joy to be found watching Ireland play rugby. Neil Francis used to refer to him as “The mad ferret” which nicely summed up Geoghegan’s playing style.
Ah ya, he was savage. Seemed like a really nice guy too…
Frostbite
Ah hear
Shur the cunts never gave him the ball
True that
