The GAA Infrastructure Thread

@caoimhaoin vindicated again

It should never have been opened when it was - loads of corners cut.

The Carkies are incapable of managing it and have to get the big boys in from HQ to do it.

The boys from the capital have to come down and get their house in order. The ultimate insult to corkies

In economics terms is this the equivalent of the IMF coming in ?

Counties who’ve had their finances overseen by Croke Park:

Roscommon
Kildare
Cork

Any others?

Frank Murphy left a right mess after himself

Galway

Cark is full of landed gentry types who haven’t a clue how to handle money

100%. Fellas laughing at him here. Kev knew

McKenna scathing. Best thing that coukd have happened

Frank knew the only way to get the stadium was to bull on with it. The GAA can do what they like, manage it for decades, but its there, and that won’t be taken away from him.

Frank knew how to get shit done.

What did Kev know? Wasn’t he all for it? I had an argument with him one day about it being a white elephant and he listen-fella’ed me about how great cork was and they were entitled to their own stadium and everyone could go away and fuck off.

Of course Cork needed a proper Stadium.

He called out the massive overspend and the absolute lack of governance around the tender process for contracts etc repeatedly. Stadium is great, pitch aside, but it should have cost far far far less considering there are two terraces which basically just got a refurb and the two stands were rebuilt on existing footprint

If it cost half what it did it’s still a white elephant and all the listen fella’s and cork are cork’s in the world won’t change that.

A white elephant wouldnt be used. Id guess PUC will get heap of games and concerts now that its been taken over by CP. Also heavily used conferencing facilities etc.

Cost is one argument but if you are of the opinion that a GAA County Like Cork doesn’t need a Stadium of that quality you are poor WUM.

it’s still in a very inaccessible place, with very poor infrastructure around it. Bastard for car parking and a bastard for traffic getting out of it. Much like Limerick.

At least it’s a good place to watch a match from. We could do with our own White Elephant in Limerick, glas, that Mackey stand is a disgrace

Thurles is and always will be the best place to watch a game of hurling.

It doesn’t. There are already too many stadiums of that size in Munster for the number of games that will come anywhere near that size capacity.
