The Glorious 12th of July

Good to see Michael Stipe and the lads joining in the festivities this year. This was Kilkeel last night.

The song Orange Crush was about REM’s love for the 12th of July.

Switching over from Bryan Ferry singing Jealous Guy at Live Aid on BBC2 to BBC1 for the main event.

A good warm up for today’s main musical event.

There were a lot of Jealous Guys in the wee six today, all of them Taigs.

Helen Mark basing herself in Dundrum for the big day. What a setting with the Mournes in the background.

The Crossgar Young Defenders have a very enthusiastic drummer.

Some proper stoic faces on display in Dundrum.

That’s some beard this fella has. I wonder how many corn flakes are encrusted in it.

On to the city of Lisburn now with Dr. David Hume.

Beautiful splashing of Boyne water under the arch.

That’s a ceremony that will be repeated before tomorrow’s semi-final at Croke Park.

The Harry Ferguson Memorial Pipe Band on parade in Lisburn. Harry, though not an orangeman himself was the Ferguson from the Massey Ferguson tractor company, Harry is himself commemorated on this forum by posters @Massey and @massey_ferguson, who I’m 100% sure are different people.

What a day for the locals in Keady. Tyrone bet and the biggest Orange demonstration in the world comes to their town.

The giddiness of some of the lads carrying the banners is off the charts.
They’ll have to account to the marching captain when the footage is reviewed.

Keady up now. Hardly a stronghold.

Queen Elizabeth looked very toothy on one banner in Keady there. The next banner up after that had a moustachioed man in a trenchcoat and flat cap with a visor. I didn’t make out who that man was.

Gordon Boyd in Keady is able to rattle off these LOL numbers like a lad selling BMW’s

One Lambeg drummer in Keady wearing orange tinted sunglasses.

Looked like a great day there and the dogs on the street seemed to be lapping it up.

First time for Keady to host since 2012. Too long.

The Millar Memorial Flute Band have such a rich history at the head of the Belfast parade.

Young Ben here who is a new member has loved every moment since joining last August. As Ben himself says, the band is full of great musicians and great crack.

I wonder is the demonstration field for the Belfast parade still in Edenderry like it was in 1987. No Offaly colours to be seen there.

Lovely feature piece there on the Millar Memorial Flute Band on the occasion of their 50th anniversary. Here’s to the next 50.

Steady on…. The Belfast turnout is the real deal.
Bowler hats and all unlike those muldoons below in Keady.

Mervyn Jess on commentary now for the big one in the capital. The Twelfth needs Mervyn and Dr, David Hume more than ever now after the sad passing of the Voice Of The Twelfth, Walter Love, last year.

Spine tingling rendition of Abide With Me at the Cenotaph, attended by Belfast East MP Gavin Robinson.

Sandy Row lodge at the front of proceedings for the parade.

Grassmarket Lodge are very welcome visitors from Scotland, they’ve been marching with Sandy Row for many years.

Sad story there from that woman whose father died on the 12th of July 1993. But what better way to remember your father every year than by celebrating his culture on this glorious day.
