Green Party bailing out home owners and paying them state money to further increase their property value?

The only thing that will be cool is people forced to rent.

Buy a stove lads, a trailer of firewood, a few bags of coal and the job is oxo.

My wood burner was best thing I ever put into the house.

They’ll ban those soon enough.

A real fire is wonderful for mental health. I reckon it’s something deep within us that we carry from our ancestors.

50% is not enough mate. Do you have to pay upfront and claim back or does the scheme pay when quotes come through.

Not against schemes like this but it doesn’t address the rapid rise in energy costs here and now. A cut in carbon taxes and excise duties short term will address this.

A bit of fracking as well to increase the supply.

Heat pumps and electric cars require electricity. Where will we get this energy that is replacing kwhrs of solid fuels? I heard from a reliable source in the esb that they are expecting black outs to be the norm on current demand and plants closing in the next 3 years…

Nuclear is the only option long term to back up wind

Why don’t we built a terminal to import this fracted gas from outside Ireland? A terminal that can be converted to biogas in the near future? The shammon estuary would be a great spot

Based on the criteria above, I don’t own my home (doesn’t look like it will be soon either), I’m not on welfare or fuel allowance. I’m struggling to pay my bills and fill up the car to get to my job on top of saving to meet point 1. A majority of my peers at my are in this situation. Does fuck all for us.

So we will rely on the markets rather than have security. That’s worked wonders for us

What about renters?

Thanks to our influence over the Housing for All plan, there will be a minimum standard of energy efficiency for all rented properties by 2025, so landlords are obliged to comply. Better sooner than later.

This type of scheme is great don’t get me wrong in getting ourselves in a position to meet our climate action goals. I imagine this was in the pipeline since the greens got into goverment.

My big issue is its being present now, as a reaction to the rising energy costs and inflation. The public are screaming out for help, this isn’t the solution to this current issue but was always a long term plan.

Great initiative but the optics as they say is all wrong. Should be solely a reaction to the climate crisis not the inflation crisis.
