The Irish Civil War 1922-23

I don’t think I’ve read a compelling book on it… Most are local narratives or as you pointed, are one sided.

The Singing Flame by Ernie O’Malley is a good read though obviously very one sided.

There’ll surely be some launched for the centenary.

Ferriter will probably rattle one out.

There’s an account in the Atlas of the Irish Revolution of a siege that took place in the the Clashmealcon Caves in County Kerry. . 3 irregulars died, 3 were captured. Two them died trying to escape by scaling the cliff face, but both fell to their deaths.

fell or pushed?

Spoke to a relative of one last month, still raw in Kerry

Forced

Bump.

We’ve regressed as a race

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Lynch showed no such concern when he said that all TDs and Senators should be shot. Or that the murder of Kevin O’Higgins father was justified because his son was a traitor. Or that the various arson attacks that led to the death of a TD’s child were fine.

But I’m not referring to the positions he took or anything like that.

I’m talking about him as a military leader. He was an idiot. It was very unfortunate for the anti Treaty side that Eoin O’Duffy let him go.

Yet more evidence of our regression

I don’t know, we don’t have people burning down houses with children it them like Liam Lynch ordered. That’s progress at least.

No surprise that you supported the Uber Catholic Lynch who wanted nothing to do with a socialist revolution.

I never said anything of the kind.

So what is your position on him?
