The Jazz Thread

Jazz is a load of wank.

That’s exactly what it is. Musical wanking.

You have to listen to the notes he’s NOT playing.

racist.

I wrongly presumed the jazz festival was cancelled

I’m very fond of On the Corner.

It’s highly influential looking back on it, although a flop at the time. It alienated jazz fans and didn’t impress the funk crowd that he was trying to reach. Probably a big factor in his descent into madness for the rest of the decade.

Would you have listened to a lot of jazz growing up?

Saxomaphone saxomaphone

Not really, fusion would have been my intro to it, specifically Weather Report. Several of the musicians who played on Miles Davis late 60s/early 70s albums went on to form Weather Report.

It’s hard to believe there was a time when you could have someone like miles davis calling on the likes of Coltrane, elderly etc as session musicians. We’ll never see their likes again

Bill Evans, Paul Chambers, Tony Williams, Joe Zawinul, it’s a very long list.

Keith Jarrett has announced that he suffered two strokes in 2018 and is unlikely ever to perform live again.

Listening to the Koln concert here in honour of the great man.

Only seeing this now!

No harm to Keith but he ran out of material five minutes into the koln concert. He could have stopped then and left glass and nyman to manage the tedious rehashed chord shtick without him.

Featuring Kamasi Washington. Lovely record.
