It’s seriously embarrassing at this stage. RTÉ had coverage all weekend based on their own inaccurate exit poll and haven’t been seen since counting started. There was half mile queue Sunday outside the romainian embassy in Dublin to vote for their meps and the results are long known. Paddy voted on Friday and still only one elected in two of three constituencies.

But but the people love tallies and the drama of elections and we couldn’t have instantaneous results because Nora Owen got very upset because it was all so abrupt.

In other words it fills hours of tv and radio cheaply for RTÉ.

The presence of a green candidate will take a lot of Ni Riada potential transfers away. FF voters will look after the sister party ahead of SF in far greater numbers. It’s another loss for SF here.

It’s a closed list election system, meaning you vote for the party and the party gets a number of seats depending on its vote. The party then decides who they put in those seats. So it’s a lot easier to count up be fair.
