The Mac and Treatystones Beer Thread

They are not really craft beers, mate. They are international … bar maybe the Rogue one.

Having a bottle of Galway Bay Double IPA. Tis grand and strong, I don’t think you’d drink more than one bottle. Tis 8.6%

Any update on the Galway bay brewery crowd opening a place in Limerick? They bought a place in the city lately I think I read.

Passed it today. No sign of anything stirring. It’s in a terrible location really. Bourke’s would have been the ideal spot.

Doubt they bought it. They lease everything. Only pub they own is the one in Salthill I think.

The place they are supposed to be going into requires serious work though. Would they lease a place like that .

Depends on agreement with owner I guess. Possibly sharing renovation costs and a 5 year lease or something like that. For a crowd of young hipsters they’re smart enough lads. Haven’t got anything wrong so far. Although I was sure they were supposed to open somewhere in Limerick 2 years ago. Assuming it fell through.

I believe Peter Clohessy took over the place they were reportedly going into. Again probably better off as that place is a graveyard.
There’s a fine pub in the hipster quarter lying idle the past couple of years that would be absolutely perfect for them.

What premises have they again?

@Mac have you been in their Salthill pub (called Oslo)? I was there in the summer I was in my element in there really, was right up my alley in terms of huge selection of beer and got a bit of grub that was lovely for the price. Only thing was there was hardly anyone there, okay it was around 3-4pm but still it was summer in salthill. Its very touristy and I think they would struggle get an atmosphere going. Not the sort of place as a local you’d rock up on your own and sit at the bar.

O’Donnells.
At the very top of Thomas St. Think it’s called Wickham St. Only two minutes from Mickey’s etc but still off the beaten path.

They have a few bars in Dublin. One in the Conrad, one in Wexford St and one opposite Connolly Station

And one in the Grand Canal Hotel as I found out on a recent stay. It was formerly The Gasworks I think.

Didn’t know that.

Been there twice, but on the one day. Went in around 3-4pm one day flogging my wares and then returned around 9pm that night half cut. Enjoyed myself on both occasions. Was during race week so Salthill was mobbed but Oslo was quiet by comparison. They know they attract a certain type of crowd and are OK with it.

Never seen the brewery but know plenty who have toured it and the common consensus is that they can never understand how young they all are. I know someone who managed their bar on Capel st and by fuck do they work the shit out of their staff. Reward them well but expect a lot. They’re grafters and deserve every bit of success they get as they’ve built it all up from scratch.

Have they beards?

Closed it down for a month and renovated it I think. A very soulless place so no idea how it could work for them.

Of course they fucking do

Twas lively enough the midweek night I was there. Good grub and fairly well done up.

Good to know. Plenty of hipsters and snowflakes in the immediate area for them to fight for in fairness

Cunts with an opinion about beer like me and you in other words? A few of the staff were Spaniards or something similar the time I was there.

What are their other bars like lads? Are they all the same, just attracting hipsters or beer snobs?
