The Man Utd Thread

Hargreaves confirmed now too.

At least they’re improving from a position of strength. There’s nothing worse than a team who wins the league resting on their laurels. There’ll be real competition for place in midfield and up front next season now.

Could the likes of Park, Richardson and Smith be getting moved on perhaps?

Hopefully Richardson will be, he’s pure shiite. I dont see where the competition up front is though, who’s there? Rooney, Saha, Rossi and maybe Smith or Ole, not exactly much going on there. I would love there to be one big signing up front who it could be possibly be I don’t know.

Not Chrissy Killen anyway. Beaten to the tape on that one.

That makes as about much sense as my abuse and Cult lyric posts on this thread

If you can’t follow it don’t be afraid to ask Flano.

ManU have been playing 1 up front most of the season. Anderson can play that role so he’s cover for Rooney. Nani and Anderson can both play either centrally or on the wing so they’re competition for Giggs, Ronaldo, Rooney and Scholes. Really adds to the depth imo but they still lack a Chrissy Killen type to hold the ball up.

What odds the Beat moving to Old Trafford? He’s clearly second string to Killen now but he leads the line well.

I was being a bit tounge in cheek there. I saw Celtic banter creeping on and Im not hungry yet :o :o

Real Madrid were interested according to the Independent

Needed to be brought back for the new season. Looking more likely Tevez coming sooner rather than later. No point in West Ham kicking their heels. He wont go back to them. Make the best of a bad situation and concentrate on the upcoming season.

United vs Inter on Wednesday. Saw a bit of Inter over the weekend. Missing a lot of the big names. Would expect victory in this one. Nani making a claim to start the season. See Giggs in a more forward role as Scholesy out for a few weeks. Hargreaves and Anderson short of match fitness and will play in a reserve outing for United against Fergie’s Son side Peterborough on Saturday.

Manchester United have sold striker Giuseppe Rossi to Spanish side Villarreal for a reported 6.7m fee.

The six-year deal is subject to the 20-year-old American-born Italian passing a medical on Wednesday.

Rossi was loaned to Newcastle last season and then to Parma, where he scored nine goals in 19 matches.

Villarreal were looking for a new striker after allowing Diego Forlan, another ex-United player, to join Atletico Madrid for 14m.

United signed Rossi as a 16-year-old from Parma and the Italian club were keen to secure his services once again after the striker helped them stay in Serie A last season during his loan spell.

They reportedly tabled a 5.4m bid for the Italy Under-21 international, but failed to clinch a deal.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson often spoke highly of Rossi, who scored 13 times in 19 starts for the reserve team in his first season at Old Trafford.

He signed a new contract until 2010 last summer, with Ferguson hailing him as “the future of the club”.

He went to Newcastle last season in a bid to play regular Premier League football but failed to win a regular place in the first team.

His loan spell in Parma was, by contrast, a huge success and Villarreal’s offer was apparently too good for United to turn down.

Think its a mistake. I wanted to see him at United another year to see if he could get the breakthrough. Probbably wouldnt be sold if Tevez wasnt on the way.

I thought he looked like a very decent player any time I saw him but it was a bit brief. Did United retain some sort of right to buy him back or something? I only caught a glimpse of sports news over the past couple of days but that would seem to make sense from United’s point of view.

Yeah there is a buy back clause in the deal.

Newcastle have agreed a deal for Smith. Unless Tevez is actually signed on the dotted line Smith should stay. Rooney is the only fit forward at the moment and if anything happens to him then it not looking good for United.

United were short forwards last year - they missed Saha when he was injured and they missed Larsson when he left. Most of all though they didn’t really have options to change a match when it wasn’t happening up front. I remember when Celtic went one up at Celtic Park with ten minutes to go and United went for a last throw of the dice - Ferguson brought on Evra and O’Shea. They didn’t have a quality forward on the bench and they’re risking a lot by getting rid of Rossi and Smith at this point I think.

We all agree Smith is rubbish though.

He only ever really made an impact when he first came to Man United and put some good performances in over the first few months of the season and then faded a bit when Rooney got accustomed to life at Old Trafford. 2nd season Ferguson thought he was the new Roy Keane when clearly he was not and then broke his leg. Still dont think he proflic enough to be a centre forward at the highest level.

I think Smith is a classic player. He has fight in him. To speculate on what Ferguson thinks is a bit ridiculous. Ferguson never said he was the next Roy Keane. I reiterate, it is only speculation.

Anyway, getting rid of him is a mistake especially when Tevez is nowhere near a certainty as a Utd player.

Smith is the old style ‘up and at’em British style’ centre forward with the exception that he doesn’t score or set up goals. A truly awful player.

West Ham and the agent appear to have agreed a deal and Tevez is expected to move to United at the weekend. Smith was a poor mans Mark Hughes in my book.

What dya reckon about this whole Heinze debacle? West Ham will probably come in with an offer of 25m and a salary of 250,000 a week (conservative estimate). If Kieron Dyer is worth 80,000 a week thats a small price to pay for Heinze.
