The Man Utd Thread

I had a thread about him before. Peaked at the age of 18 during Euro 2004 I think was my comment. He’s literally done nothing at European Cup or international level since then. He got a chip against Portsmouth and a volley against Middlesbrough though.

Bang on the money Flano. The guy might become a great player or he might not, at the moment hes a fairly average striker.

Watched ManU yesterday evening and they showed signs of cracking. Only one shot on target all game (the goal in the 2nd minute) and Boro were denied a penalty late on when O’Shea hacked down some randomer.

Very interesting now as the title is in both team’s hands. If Chelsea win their last 5 games then they win the league and I think they’ve a smashing chance. They had all their injuries early on in the season and now they’ve a fully fit squad while it’s the opposite for ManU. They’re looking very bare in some positions, especially at the back with Ferdinand going off injured yesterday, and will be relying on a couple of key players like Scholes and Ronaldo to carry them because the likes of O’Shea, Smith, Richardson, Brown, Rooney and Fletcher are not top class.

Watched the game on TFK last night. United weren’t up to much. They didn’t have much pace or purpose to their attacks in the second half at all when chasing the win and as you say were lucky to get away with the draw after O’Shea’s challenge. In fairness he did prevent the Korean guy from getting a shot off which was probably his main goal after the week that was in it.

I’ll exalt you for that.

As an aside; exalting and smiting seems to have gone out of fashion around these parts.

Well done the Toon. Roll on the 9th May and we’ll do the Chelski scum hi5.
Scholesy will show Fat Frank how to do the business :smoke:

I thought Joe Cole scored in injury time and thought here we go again but for once it didnt happen. 4 games left. Squeaky bum time. :o

COME ON! Champions, was there ever a question about it ;D. Now begins the march towards the double hi5

Mourinho are you listening. You better keep our trophy glistening. We’re coming in May to take our trophy away. Walking in a Fergie wonderland. ;D

Watxhed the end of this. Mourinho is some c0ck. Striding purposefully onto the pitch at the end past all his players ansd straight over to the crowd. Then he stops and starts pointing manically at the players behind him and applauding as if to say ‘they are still heroes’. Then he starts making ‘keep the chin up’ gestures to the crowd and struts off applauding the Arsenal support in some vain attempt to show he’s a true football man. They responded with ‘what a waste of money’. I suppose ManU deserved it over the season. I hope there’s killings in the cup final.

I presume this is old news to Man Utd fans but I hadn’t seen it till now. Hargreaves to United for 17m. That’s an awful lot of money. He had a decent world cup but I think he went from being underrated to being overrated.

I see United are also linked with a move for Craig Gordon.

Bayern confirm sale of Hargreaves

Hargreaves is expected to sign a four-year deal with Man Utd
Bayern Munich have agreed to sell Owen Hargreaves to Manchester United.

Club president Franz Beckenbauer told German TV: “Owen is leaving. That was the player’s wish. It’s a good match and it’s also a good deal financially.”

Beckenbauer said the transfer fee was “around” 17m - which would be a record for a Bundesliga player.

Hargreaves, 26, has been at Bayern for 10 years but after starring for England at the World Cup last year, he admitted he wanted to play in the Premiership.

United quickly moved to open negotiations with Bayern and made offers in the summer transfer window and in January but the German club refused to sell - until now.

Hargreaves, who played only nine league games for Bayern this season because of injury, is expected to sign a four-year deal with the newly-crowned Premiership champions.

His career in Germany ended in disappointment when Bayern finished fourth in the Bundesliga, thereby missing out on Champions League qualification.

Writing in his column for the BBC Sport website, Hargreaves admitted the club “can never afford not to qualify for the Champions League”.

His transfer is therefore likely to be the first stage of an overhaul at the club, with chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge promising to carry out “brutal and ruthless” changes to the team.

Rummenigge said he was disappointed to be losing the energetic midfielder.

He told the club’s website: "A player like Owen Hargreaves would have looked good in our team next year.

“In the defensive midfield position Owen is one of the best in the world - it’s a big sporting loss for us.”

Sunday’s newspaper reports suggested Bayern could use the funds from Hargreaves’ sale to buy Chelsea winger Arjen Robben.

I see United have signed Nani from Sporting and Anderson from Porto. Don’t know much about Anderson but he’s supposed to be class. Saw some small bits of Nani over the season and he looks quality.

Fook, both of those are class. Anderson does incredible things with the ball. A quick YouTube search should give us all a treat - but as I hate Manchester United I won’t bother. Been trying to sign Nani for months of Football Manager 2007 and the prick won’t agree personal terms.

I only heard this news this morning, the timescale from rumour to actual signing was pretty short on this one, I didnt expect a deal to be done so quickly. Ive seen very little of Nani but from what I have seen things are looking good. The next “Ronaldo” apparently, Dunphys head will explode watching these two.

I’ll have to do some research on Anderson.

Nani is a good bit smaller than Ronaldo, he’s more creative and less individualistic from what I’ve seen.

It’s a hell of a lot of money to be paying though for 2 guys with 40 games between them.

You could say the same for Rooney when the splashed out on him. If these guys are as good as what I’ve being hearing they sound like they’re worth it.

And you’d be right.
