Yeah, good one.

Did you like it?
It was a true story.

If you were any good you would’ve got em off him.
The other cunt just fucked all my gear out.

The bottom of the gear bag had rotted away, he didn’t have much choice.

FITZGIBBON CUP: Dublin IT 1-15 NUI Galway 1-15 : FITZGIBBON CUP holders NUIG staged a remarkable rally to eke out a draw from this thrilling tussle at Mobhi Road.

Despite the first-half dismissal of Tipperary All-Ireland medal winner SĂŠamus Hennessy, NUIG thundered into the contest in the third quarter.

At half-time DIT, who were purposeful early on, deservedly led by 1-9 to 0-7 as Liam Óg McGovern struck an opportunistic 20th-minute goal shortly after Hennessy had been harshly red-carded for a wild rather than mean pull on Liam Murphy.

NUIG though battled with real grit and determination as Joseph Cooney marshalled the defence superbly in the second period.

John Conlon, Ger Kelly and Barry Daly were all prominent as NUIG trimmed the deficit, but DIT still led by three in stoppage time.

By this stage Cooney had been moved to full forward and fittingly the promising youngster provided the clever goalscoring flick to rescue a draw for NUIG, who now hope that CIT can defeat DIT by more than a point when they meet in Tuesday’s final group game.

DIT: F McGarry; C O’Shaughnessy, J Walsh, O Walsh; P Schutte, T Brady (0-1), D English; P Hartley, M Maloney (0-1); E Murphy (0-2), M Murphy (0-3); H Kehoe (0-1); P Ryan (0-5, 0-2 frees, 0-1 65), L Óg McGovern (1-1), P Morris. Subs: P Phelan for Schutte (31 mins), P Kelly (0-1) for Morris (43 mins), P Donnelly for English (50 mins), J Mulrooney for O’Shaughnessy (56 mins).

FITZGIBBON CUP: Galway-Mayo IT 2-8 St Patrick’s/Mater Dei 1-9 : JAMES LIDDY was the hero for Galway-Mayo IT when he drilled home a last-gasp goal to snatch victory in an entertaining Fitzgibbon Cup tie at Carnmore yesterday.

St Pat’s looked certain for a second win and a home quarter-final when Paudie Kehoe edged them in front with a free as the game slipped into stoppage time.

It was the sixth point of the game for the Carlow full-forward when he landed a 50-yard free.

But GMIT staged one final rally with Colin Egan breaking through the middle and setting up Liddy. The Newmarket-on-Fergus player soloed through and blasted low into the net for a dramatic winner.

It was the second goal of the game for the Clare man after he fired home four minutes after the restart following a move started by man-of-the-match Ger Mahon.

That goal levelled the game after St Pat’s led by 1-5 to 0-5 at the break thanks to a goal from JJ Farrell after 25 minutes.

The sides were level six times during a good contest. Galway senior Mahon was the dominant figure in the second half. Both sides should advance to the quarter-finals unless UUJ score a huge win over GMIT next week.

GMIT : J Keane; T Martin, C Flannery, G O’Halloran; D Maher, G Mahon, S Hynes; K Waters, W McNamara; D Loughnane (0-1), C Egan (0-1), A Lynch; K Feeney (0-4, frees), R Badger, J Liddy (2-0). Sub: T Flannery (0-2, 0-1 free, 0-1 65) for Feeney (34 mins).

FITZGIBBON CUP: University of Limerick 4-18 Dublin City University 0-8: A UNIVERSITY of Limerick team heavily sprinkled with some of the most recognisable names in inter-county hurling demolished DCU without too much fuss in yesterday’s Fitzgibbon Cup round-robin match.

The Dubliners put up a decent enough show in the first half when they were aided by a gusting wind, but they were blown away in the second period as UL held them scoreless and went to town at the other end of the field.

The weather conditions were always going to militate against free-flowing hurling and UL really struggled to get into any sort of rhythm in the first half, but goals from Tipp duo Kieran Morris and Joe Gallagher still helped them into a 2-4 to 0-8 half-time lead.

The teams were greeted at the start of the second half by a driving, icy rain but UL made light of the conditions to produce some sparkling hurling.

Offaly’s Joe Dooley and Cork’s Pa Cronin were prominent as they ran at the DCU defence and picked off great scores and at the other end of the field Waterford’s Michael ‘Brick’ Walsh repelled any sporadic DCU attacks.

Two more goals from impressive substitute Tom Connors and Dooley added some more gloss to the final score, and by the finish UL’s winning margin of 22 points was a fair reflection of the gulf in class between the two teams.

Coming on the back of a hard-fought victory over UCC last week, yesterday’s comfortable win underlines the fact that this star-studded UL team have a great chance of winning their first Fitzgibbon Cup since 2003.

“It’s the first time in a long time that we’ve had such a strong panel,” said UL Manager Ger Cunningham after the game. “The lads are working very hard and we’re combining well as a team.”

UNIVERSITY OF LIMERICK: T Lowry; M Malone, M Walsh, S Hickey; P Stapleton, B Bugler, K Joyce; D Burke (0-1), J Gallagher (1-0); P Cronin (0-4), B Beckett (0-2), S Dooley (1-6, 0-3 frees); K Morris (1-1, 0-1 free), P Kelly (0-1), A Quinn (0-1). Subs: T Connors (1-2) for J Gallagher (43 mins); M Heffernan for K Morris (46 mins); PJ Delaney for K Joyce (48 mins), N Murphy for D Burke (50 mins), D Lynch for M Malone (55 mins).

DUBLIN CITY UNIVERSITY: B McCormack; S Kelly, A Moran, W Eviston; A Griffith, B Flaherty, W O’Brien; P McAllister (0-1), JJ Lennon (0-1); E McCabe, A Crane, E O’Mahony (0-1); D Horan (0-1), E Kent (0-4, 0-3 frees), C Foley.

Poor odds on the 4 coming home.

It was confirmed to me the weekend that Callinan broke his collarbone. He’ll obviously be a loss to LIT

He is a loss but far froma huge one, this is his third year hurling Fitz and has never stood out at it…Given his style of hurling the breaks and loose ball he is far more suited to the dry sod as opposed to the heavy conditions and physical style of the Fitz…

They beat a really good experienced WIT team without him for most of it. Was kinda surprised they won that, should have too much for UCD if their heads are right.

He is a loss no doubt.

That’s a hell of a scoop runt. He started centre-forward for them in last year’s Fitz semi-final and I don’t think he touched the ball. He’s a brilliant reader of the game for such a young player, and he consistently makes excellent runs for the man in possession. On top of that he has pace and is a brilliant finisher. The problem is he just has no appetite for competing for ball. He can get away with that sometimes but when the tide is against them it marks him out for a lot of criticism. He’s a bit soft in the tackle as well. What Tyrrell did to him in the '09 final was wrong and he should have walked for it, but no less an animal than Tony Carmody collided with him as much as shouldered him in the Munster semi-final and he spent the next five minutes hunched over gasping for air. He went off ten minutes later without having moved from the spot.

Tipp would do well to mind him though. They don’t have that many scoring forwards to turn to.
