The Official Cork GAA 2017 Thread

The underage devt squads are doing well . I assume there is decent levels of coaching going on with these teams . I am always wary of over egging the development squad pudding as I believe there needs to be much more emphasis on participation in the games. I still think cork have poor managed the demographic changes with people leaving city and moving to new towns in hurling , carrigaline , mallow , ballincollig have not produced the teams they should have .

Generally if there is a decent cadre of hurlers college teams follow on.

Are the underage development squads doing well? What is the criteria?

Is there a drip down to clubs? Are they becoming more intelligent and rounded players? I would say largely no.

I work with a varying amount of clubs periodically. I know plenty others similarily. I come into contact with some development squad players. Its very apparent to me (watching videos of training freely available etc) they have not moved on in some teams. Not all the teams are the same and some are being well coached, but i would say 25-30%. From my end i train or am involved with in some fashion 7-8 lads. Most of them are absolutely shit athletically, have poor posture and can’t squat and can’trun. You have to ask what are they doing with these squads. Now conversely i heard of one lad dropped off a squad due to not meeting some spurious FMS score. So no uniformity there. One of the lads i deal with is huge, but an incredibly average player from what i have seen. Why is he there? They only meet a certain amount of times, i know in some cases alot of this is filled with nonsense screens. I’m all for screeening, but it should not determine a lads ability.

They win blitzes, by loading teams and picking size. I think its very flawed from the bit of insight i get. I’m not saying its all bad, and there is loads of effort and plenty good people involved. But its hugely flawed as well. There are CB men involved with team who are fucking clueless, and i know the Development lads are doing it to keep the peace.

They lost that too

They are winning underage titles in as you say blitzes . A cork team won the Dean Ryan this year , There are two cork teams in Harty semis . Cork will come . You lads should not be doing much S&C up to U16 .

Cork are coming .

That’s why they’re second best

Who made that rule?
Some 15 year olds are more ready than 17 year olds. And this is why its so faulty, everyone thinks its one size fits all.

Does it qualify them to play professional adult football or the ability to perform a basic human movement?

Nice try.

Wow, a staggering contradiction.

I thought it might interest you alright

Hmmmm.

Is it 14 a side?

If you knew what you were even talking about it would be something.

But if you want to equate a 15 year old being able to squat well with being able for pro adult sport then go right ahead.

I suppose you support the trials for 5 year olds some English clubs are having now as well???

Sure what can you expect from someone with a Jordanstown education.

It’s a bizarre contradiction.

The tried and tested method of giving you enough rope and you hanging yourself with it.

FULL TIME @Munsterpps Harty Cup Semi Final; @colmanscollege: 1-8(11)
Midleton CBS: 0-7(7)

Not sure if Colmans have enough options on the bench

If there was even a hint of a connection there might be some humour in it

Morto for you.
