The Official Cork GAA 2017 Thread

McGeeney was a fucking complete bluffer. He wasted a load of talent.
Yer man after was not much better but was trying to adjust. Its only now they are moving fully towards a total football game, which suits them.

McGeeney had Kildare very competitive at the business end of Championship, since he left they have been an embarrassment.

Cian O’Neill is a bluffer.

He has them humming right now anyway. Remains to be seen how they go.

Kildare were competitive in spite of McGeeney, not because of him

It’s February, they were extremely poor in last year’s Championship. Despite the fact that you like to hail O’Neill as the messiah, there is nothing to suggest he deserves any sort of praise at this juncture.

Why did they stop being competitive as soon as McGeeney left? A lot of the players also voiced their anger at McGeeney not being kept on.

Some players liked the lifestyle of it. Many of them hace suffered since. Its a cult like thing.

Just because some players liked the lunacy does not mean its best practice.

I don’t think much of CON either way, he seems a bit stuck up his own arse. However he knows his shit, has an unbelievable record and is as far away from a bluffer as you can get.

O’Neill doesn’t have an unbelievable record.

There seems to be a big correlation between how Kildare rose to being a competitive Championship side under McGeeney from the shambles they were in the preceding years and how they went back to being a shambles after he left.

His Armagh tenure has been a bit of disaster to date but I think it’s very clear he did a very good job with Kildare. O’Neill will be doing well to be as successful and he has a stream of fairly successful underage sides from recent years to work with.

He started with Mayo, was a huge part of them becomibg as fit and professional as they are.
He then had massive parts to play in Tipp and Kerry winning All Irelands. Both very unexpected as it happens.

Not sure whats not unvelievable about having success everywhere you go.

Anyway, we’ve done this.

I don’t know why i engaged, it would easier discuss it with 3 year olds. Just as selfish and tantrum driven, but they tend to have fun learning

Being part of Kerry and Tipp AI wins are standard achievements. Kerry and Tipp were winning AIs before O’Neill and will be winning them after, in Tipp’s case they already have.

He was part of a Mayo set up that has made All Ireland finals, again a standard achievement before and after O’Neill.

Tipp stopped the greatest team ever from 5 in a row. In a conversation once with a present and former Tipp player they said they would not have won only for him. He helped, with O’shea, them match the intensity and speed if big game KK.

Kerry won an AI with one of their weakest sides in history. Kerry players relayed to me the same as above. He made them fitter than ever vefore and was crotical against mayo who he knew. This is from lads who played on that team. People who recognise Donaghy was a throw of the dice but tgat the replay win was hugely influenced by CON.

Mayo had average enough footballers that he was a major part in moulding to being uber competitive. Buckley, Horan and Coughlan had a big part too, but he brought the standards.

You don’t understand the role so how would you get it though??? You can’t, even if you were not as pig ignorant as you are.

O’Neill was an ancillary backroom team member. He did not go out there and put the ball over the bar, his role was limited and minimal. The achievements he was involved with are par the course with the teams he was involved with year on year.

But they weren’t. No Tipp player had an AI i think, maybe Kelly, maybe 1 other like John O’Neill.

Kerry won with an incredibly average side.

Anyway if you knew anything about elite sport you would know the value of top coaching

You know nothing about elite level sport so you shouldn’t be acting as some sort of expert.

You are like a cult member when it comes to Cian O’Neill, it’s daft, like a doe eyed teen with their childhood icon.

While some Kerry players may have relayed how important they thought O’Neill was I know the three O’Sé brothers regarded him as a spoofer.

Jealousy is an awful thing.

Its never too late to go back and study what you really wanted to.

I have nothing to be jealous of.

I am content in my current employment.
