The Official Cork GAA 2017 Thread

I really don’t think it works like that. Hurling is so quick that having a “worker” in a line will only really help stifle the ball a bit from his position. One man, no matter how fit or inclined, simply can’t cover much more than his own position. Imo.

It’s only a small observation, but we played meelin in a junior match a few years back. I remarked to one of the lads afterwards that it was the cleanest game of hurling wed played in two years.
In the match report afterward, the meelin manager was quoted as saying that the hurling was a lot more physical than they were used to.
I found it a surprising statement.

Thats Wes. Was in DCU for a couple of years.
Just that little bit too slow for IC. Mind you i think he is too big for his frame, should be abother stone lighter (of muscle that is). Would speed him up no end.

Nobody good enough either.

We’re fucked without backs. John McLoughlin is nowhere near that standard. Its unbelievable he can make it. Great effort from him and all that, but he does not have the skill, speed or size.

Cork hurling is soft.

Ruined by Donal O’ Gradys running game and yhe copy and paste culture there after as well as awful referring.

I guessed as much. There is not too many lads called Wes Hurling in Dublin. An excellent player alright but a little on the slow side.

Thought Harnedy/Cadogan looked very dangerous in the first 20 minutes, then disappeared. The full-back line (although Burke got taken apart in the second half), Kearney, Cooper, Murphy and Lehane played well apart. Brosnan got a decent bit of ball, but a lot of it back near our forty, can’t think what he offers us with the ball back there, both him and Murphy love to solo with their heads down, slowing our attack down. Coleman is a class hurler but his man played a load of ball in the second half - obviously needs to be moved to midfield, particularly with Cahalane/McDonnell back but you’d imagine they’ll stick with him at half-back for the year. Kingston worked hard off the ball, did nothing with the ball and hit his shot at a nice height for Murphy to block. Shame Cooper’s touch alludes him at the worst moments possible, he is the only one constantly getting in hooks, blocks and actually harrying players. Subs were shocking bar Murphy. He had Buckley’s head pinned down to the ground for a good five seconds with the ref standing over him, pure stupidity. The missed goals either side of the break screwed us, KK got an incredible amount of space and one-on-ones throughout the second half. Meade, Horgan, Cooper, Ellis, Lehane and others all managed to repeatedly fail simple pick-ups, some of them on a number of occasions.

As an aside, that has to be one of the most average KK teams I’ve ever seen. The number 4 is a mile off inter-county hurling, Walsh isn’t a full-back and the number 14 has no pace. Leahy looks like a lad who is happy to flick over a couple of points when the game is over.

1st hand info today: that 15 of the 30 man u21 football squad are injured. 50% :joy::joy::joy:
The source was forced to train on a friday a few weeks ago by both u21 hurling and football panels, the day after a Sigerson match and the exact same thing happened in reverse with Fitzgibbon players.

One session, hurling, was completely fitness.

2nd hand information: U21’s on Senior panel have been forced to train on friday nights, even when selected on Sunday Senior Panel.

What is wrong with these egotistical maniacs???

gaa sthyle training, run the fuck out of them :joy:

They would want to get fit and be ready if they are playing TIpp next week

They are playing Waterford.

That is the hurling draw

Hopefully they lose and we finally see the end of the management

who would have take over Kev? who would you want?

the more one watches Cork last year or so, JBM worked a minor miracle to come within a few seconds of an Ireland title. He won a munster title the following year!

Oh give over on the JBM stuff.

Great hurler and a nice man. Players played for him, but that only goes so far.

Cork are shy a bit of quality, especially at the back and ball winning elsewhere. If this is the pick or the coaching or a combo i don’t know.

But we’ll never get close to know how good this bunch is i think.

I just don’t think people outside appreciate the level of apathy for Cork GAA now and its hurting the teams. Nobody gives a shit that you play for Cork anymore, its not that big a deal like it was. Success drives that, but competitiveness is a minimum.

Look at Horgan yesterday. He has been doing for years. People who pointed it out were dropped from coaching teams.

Compare that culture to KK

Cork last year and this do not resemble that team at all by the way.
8 including 3 subs played in 13. 8 from 20 is less than half. Thats not really the same team

the Kilkenny culture. well cork under JBM beat Kilkenny in the championship. Cork are fairly average at best and he got them to within a few seconds of an all Ireland title and won a munster senior championship with them. A significant achievement in my book

anyways you are not giving any great kudos to JBM or the present management. fair enough but who would you appoint?
