Look who’s re-emerged after hiding all the way through yesterday’s play.
yesterdays play was in the middle of the night
Stokes is having a cut at it straight away now. He’s gone for that slog sweep shot a few times already.
The English have cut the tv feed. It’s that bad.
Stokes has just hit two boundaries. They might want to restore pictures for some of his slogging before he gets himself out.
Bt now broadcasting a feed from a supporters phone in the crowd.
266/6 Stokes gone
stokes
england 6/266
268/7. Buttler gone.
286/8
England leading by 8.
England all out for 297.
19 run lead just won’t be enough.
ooft!
That is a bad collapse by England.
I feel they needed to win the first test to have any chance of winning the series.
It could end up 5-0 now I feel
Fuckin hell he’s done it again.
Got a WhatsApp from @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy just before 11.00 last night. It read:
"I know TFK’s Geoffrey Boycott said The Gabba is a batting track now but he has conveniently forgotten how we are experts at playing possum. 2/220 will turn into 295-300 all out. We might lose a wicket early doors but will win by something like 9 wickets.
1-0 to the Baggy Greens. On to Adelaide".
A Gabbatoir genius is TSG.
England have batting collapses like that every other test. That’s all but inevitable when you only have one batsman in the ranks of test standard. A by product of prioritising the nonsense of pyjama cricket for the past decade.
The first hour of play was crucial last night in an otherwise tight Test Match. Anderson and Broad back will change the landscape as the latter has made Warner his bunny. Still all to play for.
What’s the update on Warner’s rib injury? Hazelwood as well.
Cummins said Warner should be OK for Adelaide. Hazelwood not serious but might sit out the next one to manage his workload.
Anderson and Broad are hardly going to chip in with what’s really needed to change the landscape for England, a few hundred extra runs.
It hasn’t attracted too much comment but Australia were on 195/5 in their first innings and fortunate enough to be even have that much on the board. Warner on his way to 94 survived a no ball wicket on 17, a dropped catch on 40, any number of ropey play and misses and there was a botched run out as well. Stuff like that is all obviously the by product of an average team but Wood, Robinson and to a lesser extent Woakes bowled well enough and created the opportunities to have bowled Australia out for 250.
It was an under fire Travis Head who many in Australia didn’t want in the team coming in at Number 6 that posted the quick fire match winning innings of 152.
England badly need an Ollie Pope or Jos Buttler to do something like that in the middle order. All they ever seem to do though is play a few nice shots and get out in the 20’s or 30’s.
