Quite apart from all the dropped wicket catches, it is utterly comical how bad Bairstow is even with just the routine stuff. He just simply doesnât have the athleticism for the role. Itâs particularly pronounced in this test with the speed of Mark Wood and the Headingley pitch. He simply canât keep wicket to Wood.
Even his technique when throwing from glove to glove looks completely unnatural. Jack Russel and Ian Healy could do this and have a conversation with first slip at the same time. Heâs no Sangakara anyway- another whose keeping abilities relative to his batting were questioned
That was a massive wicket. Could be the difference in this test.
Get Marsh early in the morning & crack on.
Broad bowled terribly wide balls to Marsh this evening and gave him easy runs & built his confidence.
Atherton in commentary wasnât best pleased with his positioning whilst his bowlers bowled to Labuschagne.
Any chase under 250 and England will biff their way to the target. Australia have had chances to put the game and series away but slight advantage to the Poms as it stands
Raining in Leeds. Wonât be any play until at least 1.10.
Can this day get much worse
You need to give up event junkieism and live a little
Still raining heavily. Increasingly likely the day will be rained off.
Could be a bit of play by around 5. These will be very bowling friendly conditions if it does materialise which the England attack will simply have to capitalise on.
Weâre underway.
127/5. Woakes picks up wicket of Marsh.
139/6
Wood picks up the wicket of Carey.
170/8
Wood starting to mop up the tail here. Starc and Cummins on their way in quick succession.
224/9.
Lead out to 250. Travis Head keeping Australia in this. 77 not out.
Make that 224 all out as Head falls. Target of 251 for England to chase down.
England 27/0 at stumps.
You confident for tomorrow?
The Aussies will no doubt try every underhand (underarm) trick in the book
You support the racist woman haters mate?
If we bat sensibly, should be more than capable of knocking off a target of 251.
Bit of patience would be a good start
