The Official England Cricket Team Supporters thread

More interesting is bazball in aus. Shane Warne, the foremost cricket brain of his generation always felt Australia was a place to play your shots. England generally go there already beaten.

First day at the Gabbatoir could be 80 all out or 350/1. Bazball is box office to be fair

Both sides will be much changed when the first test of the next Ashes series swings around in Brisbane in two and a half years time. This series is a real Dad’s Army. Just looking at age profiles

Australia - Warner (36), Khawaja (36), Lyon (35), Boland (34), Starc (33), Hazelwood (32), Carey (32), Mitchell Marsh (31), Cummins (30), Labuschagne (29), Head (29).

England - Anderson (41), Broad (37), Moeen (37), Woakes (34), Wood (33), Bairstow (33), Root (32), Stokes (32),

Tubby Taylor and Ponting have been scathing of Cummins captaincy.

He has been absolutely brilliant in the series though. Best player out there. He has led by example. The Aussie tactics will have been dictated by the sandpaper gang in any case. I still think they’ve a good chance of winning this game and the series.

Australia have batted poorly in the main all series so it’s going to take a monumental batting effort. England have left the door somewhat open though. That’s one of the big issues that I have with ‘Bazball’, you bat the opposition out of the test first, so they can’t win. That’s what should have happened at Edgbaston and even against here at 332/4 with so much time left in it, England should have pushed on and got a lead of 500.

Australia 75/0.

I think they’ve a great chance of chasing down these 384 runs. Pitch is dead and doing nothing for the bowlers.

Australia 135/0. Rain pelting down last hour and a half and can’t see any more play today. This will most likely be another draw courtesy of the weather.

does that mean we win the series?

You must not have been following proceedings too closely over the past 6 weeks if you’re unaware of the current state of play.

reading this thread i noted the following & assumed Oz couldnt win the series

Stuart Broad stats:

Australia lead 2-1 coming into the final test of the series.

I’ll simplify it as much as I can. Any result other than an England win means Australia win the series.

great stuff

any strategy for yourself to backtrack from those posts?

Why is a backtrack needed? As things currently stand this Australian team hasn’t won a test series in England, India or South Africa.

Even if this Australia team does end up winning this rain affected series in England, they’re well below those great Australia, England and Windies sides that I have mentioned.

It should also be noted that this Australia team is not even the best team of its generation. India have been the top test side of the last decade. India have won all 4 of the test series against Australia in the last decade, 2 in Australia and 2 in India, the most recent only less than 6 months ago.

I’ll be the first to congratulate Australia if they do win the series. Nice touch from Australia to provide a guard of honour for Stuart Broad onto the pitch this morning. They’ve gone up considerably in my estimation.
