The Official "Good Places to Eat (GrubWatch)" Thread

Only paupers eat from paper plates with plastic cuttlery.

Foley’s in Killarney.

Tried this new Boojum place today, Very decent, if a little dry due to the generous portions of filling. Theres hot sauce on the tables to top up after each bit though. The shredded beef is the real deal, slow braised for eight hours or some such. Anyway, along with the jalapenos and salsa roja I was left with a big sweaty head by the end my burrito so no complaints.

junos on parkgate street is well worth a visit.

The Texaco on the left as you come out of Toomevara have the finest selection of flapjack bars ever seen to man. An caramel one and a cup of tea is an absolute treat in the middle of a long drive home…

The title of this thread is extremely misleading if that’s the best you can do, Tony

Where do you get your flapjack bars Fran? 5 star restaurants.?

Now get the fuck out of my thread.

Big time. Whats the story with them though - they have two restaurants about two doors apart. Had the old graduation meal there - very nice.

Had another graduation meal in the G hotel - disaster. Went for another one in another ‘highly rated’ restaurant Vi na Mara - shocking.

Posh food is shit. Ambience and all the rest fuck that. I just want good food when I go for a meal.

I must check out Morans on the Weir next time I’m back. Have been meaning to go for years. Also Linnane’s in New Quay.

Oh yeah - Am I the only one that hates carveries, buffets and the like?

I like an aul carvery. A grand feed for the busy man about town.

Flapjack bars, FFS.

Not mad on carveries at all. Food that’s been sitting out that long can’t be that good for you.

Was in Moran about 6 or 7 years ago and it’s some job. Best Fish west of the shannon apparently.

A small place in Maynooth, Kildare, Stonehaven is the name, was in there recently, unbelievably good food, and a weekday early bird 3-course menu for €20.

Great shout - the best restaurant in the village by a long shot.

I ate in The Exchequer last night. Seriously good food.

Decent selection of beers and ales. Good music.

I’ll be back there again

I had a shit lunch today in Puccinos in the shopping centre in Douglas, Cork. Avoid it. But this is the good lunch thread so here’s a few I’d recommend.

The Perch, Baltinglass
Fantastic little cafe with an innovative creative menu. I had a burger Blaa and the courgette and rosemary soup. Fucking gorgeous. They also have a weird unopenable till that takes all the money like a slot machine then does what it wants.

The Blueberry Cafe, Donegal town
I meant to post this at the time but didn’t. Anyone who is passing through Donegal town should stop here. It’s fantastic. Not afraid to do something different and the ability to pull it off. I had a fantastic roast vegetable and curried chicken quinoa salad.

The Brewery Bar, Letterkenny
No frills carvery but lovely service and good quality. €10 even got us a ‘steak’(more like a big slab of roast beef-but lovely anyway) and coffee and biscuits.

Breens Lobster Bar in Castletown Bere. This place is savage. Had a delicious fish pie there today. Lovely delicate fishy/herby flavour with gorgeous crispy mash on top. Only 14€ which is decent for West Cork. Some of the prices are ridiculous around West Cork.

You were off the beaten track there @Juhniallio. I was never there but have been in nearby Glengarriff. What’s castletown bere like?

I ate in a newly opened restaurant in Ballycotton recently and it was excellent. I love little places by the sea like Ballycotton, Glengarriff, Sneem, Miltown Malbay.

It’s lovely @smark. Grand little seaside town with the (working) Harbour at its Centre. A decent size too. Nice feel to the town. We were told to check out the Buddhist Cafe there but didn’t make it today but apparently it’s the place to go for coffee. People are very nice and a bit of craic.

I had a magnificent burger in Kingfisher’s Kitchen in Enniskerry on Sunday.

Best beef burger I’ve ever had I’d say.
