The Official Irish Times Best Places to Holiday in Ireland Thread

Just myself and the missus for a midweek stay mid march @Mac

Is your missus much of a golfer?

No mate. She will be my ball locator and caddy. In return then I will treat her to a facial.

 Lucky girl

I thought you might let her in around Gorey to do a bit of shopping :grinning:

I think we’ll go to loftus hall down in Hook head. She’s kind of interested in the paranormal and spooky ghost stories.

I was there last summer, the tour is only alright but it’s a lovely windswept location, throw in Tintern abbey, the lighthouse and a bite to eat in Kevin Dundons place and you’ve got a decent day trip.

Sounds good. Thanks :+1:

Loftus Hall is a good hour and a bit away from Gorey. Literally opposite ends of the county. There’s enough in South South Wexford to warrant a few days trip in itself.

The Spa in Seafield is supposedly brilliant. Food in hotel is ok. Just opened a new restaurant in it last summer which has made the price more reasonable. Golf course on site in hotel or Courtown Golf Course is less than 5 mins drive down the road and much nicer. Both looking out onto Irish Sea.

There’s a street of great women’s shops in Gorey. People with more money than sense travel from all around Ireland to splurge there. Lots of nice restaurants in the town too catering for all budgets. If you’re there on a Thursday night there’ll be a trad session in Frenches pub on the main st. Loads of 1798 and 1916 stuff down the road in Enniscorthy if it interests you.

Would recommend stopping off in Cahore at some point if you’ve time. Gorgeous little coastal village with a pub on top of a hill overlooking the Irish Sea and up and down the coast. Not much else there other than the view and a few cliff trail walks. If you’re into walks then Tara Hill which is 5 mins from hotel is worth exploring.

Whatever you do, don’t take a day trip to Kilmore Quay. The last lad on here who got that advice took a good 3 years to get over it.

You would be a good sales man for Gorey I’d nearly make a trip myself based on that review

A week in Dingle already booked for July.

It’s 4 years now and I’m still seething. Ruined my holiday.

Would you not find that Dingle is a bit isolated if the weather is poor ?
We used always do Kerry for at least one week in the year and found Killarney or Tralee way more central and more stuff like cinema and bowling etc for the kids.
We’d do a day trip alright to Dingle via the Conor pass but the day was enough.

Did you ever seek advice about where to go in Galway? Did you ?
You’d know what seething was if you did buddy.

We’ve been lucky in general with Dingle, the kids absolutely love it. There’s a little tat shop called carousel down by the back of super valu and they’d spend half a day there if needed. Louis Mulcahy to do a bit of pottery, Skellig pool, aquarium,
And the grub options are second to none in this country.
We’ve usually stayed in the holiday houses just past the aquarium, lots of other kids to keep ours busy and if the weather is OK you’d get a bit of socialising done in the evening as well.
Best spot in the country.
Coominole beach on a nice day takes some beating.

Is that the small beach down the steep zig zag path ?

I suppose we didn’t spend long enough there to explore if properly, we got a scorcher of a day there once and met a girl I went to school with, both lots of kids mixed well and we all had lunch together, a lovely day out.
However we turned up another day in the rain and it was misery. In the likes of Tralee you’d have the option of a pool or bowling on the wet days.
