The Official TFK 2023 Fun Running Thread

After 8+ years, I think I’ll have to change my running watch. My current one has a few buttons missing and I’d have to replace the HR monitor strap and/or clip as one of them at least has stopped working. It has survived a fair bit of wear and tear to this point.

Was looking at the Coros Pace 3 which seems great bang for its buck at around 250. If anyone else has recommendations around that price point, please do send on. I won’t be paying anymore anyway.

I have a Garmin vívoactive 4, good solid watch. Looks good as a normal watch too. Have it coming up on two years now, never an issue. Should be within your price range.

I’ve a Garmin 245. Not the most recent model but does everything you need. You can pick it up for about €200

Garmin Vivoactive 4 here too, & seems fine to me.

Disclaimer: I know less than nothing about these kind of things.

Look at what’s on sportspursuit. I wouldn’t stray from Garmin anymore personally. No need for HRM. You can order to my place and I’ll bring it back for you if you like. I’m coming over again on Jan 7

Ah that’s very sound of you. The lad I share the office with lives in Belfast so he routinely gets stuff delivered there for me :+1:

You know they deliver to Oireland now your Lordship?

May be cheaper here is all.

Garmin vivioactive 4 here too. Never had issues

@Bandage
How did you find or set your anaerobic threshold for those 5 minute intervals??

It’s based off this chart. Basically you run a race to determine your current fitness level & take it from there. I did a couple of 5km races in December in 21:XX so I was splitting the difference between 21:00 & 22:00. 4:30ish/km for lactate/anaerobic threshold & 4:50ish/km for aerobic & then an easy run guideline too. I’m told to train at current fitness level rather than desired or past - you can move within the pace chart as you go along.

The best way to train is to run as hard as you can every session

I only have that version of it unfortunately.

@Tassotti has volunteered to type out the times on a sheet of paper & he’ll post a screenshot later.

Expand on this please.

Every January I look at those maniacs doing the Art O Neill challenge and wonder how crazy you have to be to do it

Second ever Parkrun this morning. Lovely morning for it, great atmosphere.
