In 85 it didn’t matter what way they were stacked,it never stopped raining.

The rain came upwards that year

Stacked/stooked. Every week he’d have to remove the top sheave as it had rotted and re-tie the bale. Pure torture.

I remember seeing rucks of hay in the meadows and they gone black.

Ignoramus here ref farming but interested ( mams gang in Kerry were smallish farmers)
