Not a massive impact, would have been around 15% of the crop that year. Would have bought more or fed something else.

No wonder the auld lad doesn’t want you at home

What’s this drying off melarky chaps?
How the fuck does this work?
Thought cows milked every day they’re out?
Do they continue to give milk all the year round?

No, they need to be dried off prior to calving, 6-8 weeks I think.

Thanks boy know this sounds stupid but I haven’t a clue- how do they actually stop cows from giving milk I meant

It’s an antibiotic or sealer that you administer through a plastic dispenser into the cows 4 teats. It seals the opening, dairy cows are at an increased risk if getting mastitis due to the volume of milk they produce so need a bit of assistance to stay healthy.

Their diets will be tapered a bit to reduce milk production and after a week or so they will have stopped producing milk and the udder will have reduced in size significantly.

They let down milk at calving the following spring, you draw or hand milk the teats and that will clear the sealant and they are able to milk away until being dried off again

Dung Spreader?

Winner for part 2. :+1:

In parts of the country they’d be known as Creels. Used for carrying seaweed
