Has anyone here done the trailer license lately?I’m booked in for a test,I’ve a lesson booked with a fella but I think he’s trying to mug me off.Says I can’t use my own trailer(brand new).
I did it a few years ago. I can’t remember the exact wording but I needed to put a half a tonne of blocks in the trailer. I did it with the cattle trailer as it was new at the time. Obviously the towing vehicle has to be 100% legal including the hitch towing weight. Some vans aren’t legally able to pull much weight at all.
Those lads charge a fortune to use the jeep and trailer for the test so maybe that where he is coming from but I don’t believe he is correct, you can use your own set up.
There might be minimum dimensions for the trailer, it might need to be 10ft*5ft actually come to think of it
He wants 200 for the use of it for the test.I have a jeep I can use and would be used to driving.The trailer needs 30 four inch blocks for weight alright.
Fair enough. Have a look on RSA for the requirements to be sure.
Is the jeep auto? I think if you do the test in one you aren’t covered to drive a manual fyi
No she’s a manual.I think I’ll actually drive into the test centre and ask them.

Car test again with the Box Trailer in tow.
Unless you have a box trailer he’s not mugging you off.
€200 seems steep although I did two refresher lessons and lucky I did. It’s amazing the bad habits you’d pick up unbeknownst to yourself.
Yeah I’m doin 2 lessons.Ill use my own jeep and hire the trailer off him I’d say.
I used my instructors RAV4 & Trailer, plus 2 x lessons. Total came to €300 total I think 
The reversing around a corner is a balls as you can’t look behind you or throw your head out the window, mirrors only.

It’s the Car test in every detail except the 3 point turn is the Reverse Trailer around the corner.
Do the mock test online to sharpen up the Rd signs etc.
