Sigh.
The butcher myself and @backinatracksuit go to kills his own animals. Excellent quality and well priced.
Sigh to which answer? You need to be clearer.
He does, it’s usually some of the best beef you’ll get anywhere
Flavin slaughters his own animals as well but I think his meat is rubbish
Don’t let him derail another thread
Fuck the farmers
Ladybird this for us
your a gas cunt
@Onthesod has been very informative but the farmers seem to be their own worst enemies here. Giving valuable goods away for free is not a sound business model, even for farmers.
Hmmm, I wouldn’t agree with the assessment of giving them away for nothing, many of them have no choice. They are dealing with a small number of processors, who do the majority of the processing. If they don’t like the price, they try another processor, who will likely offer the same price with the added costs of having carriage to a factory in Cavan, Donegal, Roscommon etc, thereby eating up any price improvements the farmer may/may not get. If you look at the beef prices on a Monday morning, there isn’t much by way of variation in them, all the processors are paying more-or-less the same rate, with the same conditions attached.
The farmers option is that he keeps his animals for a month (hoping the price may rise), costing more money and then the processor may tell him the animals are too big, refuse to give him anything for them (as in they will not take them at any price) and the farmer has no outlet at all then.
Caught both ways really
At a simplistic level they need to reduce supply in order to get a higher price. Farmers seem to want to mass produce and be able to demand a high price. Basic economics suggests you can’t have both. If the buyers are acting as a cartel and the farmers are not getting a fair price then they need to get their own house in order and deal as a collective. There’s a hint of wanting their cake and eating it here again with farmers.
What’s their beef?
The best goddamn one in the world.
Are the Goodman group the sole collectors and disposers of offal from the meat processors? I believe this was the case in the past and gave Goodman an unfair advantage over the competition as they could take their time collecting the putrid leftovers if the other plants to break the cartel on price…

Seriously Mike. This is predominantly about small farmers v Larry fucking Goodman (the most ironically named man in the history of the state). Pick your side. I’ll be very disappointed in you if you are a Larry Maith an
Fear lickspittle.

Like for example, coming together as a group to try to negotiate prices and then if that doesn’t work blockading meat processing plants in protest?
Larry Goodman v @Ambrose_McNulty @myboyblue, @KinvarasPassion @massey et al
It’s a fucking toughie.
It’s more about price transparency than actual price. The processors are a cartel that fix the price and supply using made up restrictions on animal age etc, and the retails use meat as a loss leader to get you in to buy other shite. They both pass the cost back to the farmer.
If it was just about supply and demand the price is the price. You’re forced to sell you animals to a cartel, as they have practically eliminated the live export trade, which kept cunts like Goodman honest. Remember who was mixing horsemeat into your burgers only a few years ago.
