This looks fantastic
That’s a cracking still there. It would have made a lovely cover for a Wolfe Tones album.
Taken on Grafton St just before the shelling of the Four Courts I think. One of the most iconic images of the civil war but there doesn’t seem to be anything else known about it. Tim Pat Coogan beat the Wolfe Tones to it.
A revolution in suits and ties. Where else would you get it.
There was nothing casual about it
@Fagan_ODowd do you reckon many of the weapons used in the War of Independence / Civil War would still be sitting in attics / outhouses and the like across the country or would they have been destroyed? I remember being at a friends farm house when I was about 10 and they had two rifles and a revolver hidden (they were shown to me, don’t think my mate was supposed to know of their existence, but little kids have a way of finding things that are hidden by adults), apparently unusable. Their ancestor had allegedly buried more armaments and ammunition on the farm.
First day of Lloyd George’s reign as Prime Minister was 100 years ago today.
Interesting piece on Century Ireland about Carson’s role in bringing down Asquith.
I’d like to get some sort of small collectable item from around this time as a Christmas gift. Any ideas what I could pick up and where? Have a nephew very interested in the period so would like to get him something for Christmas.
A broad black brimmer be the job.
I had a great book on the period that I thought I had lost, but then I found it, but now I seem to have lost it again
What was\is it called?
You can get reproductions of the medals issued to the volunteers on eBay. Like the Tan medal for example.

We already have a real one at home but a reproduction might not be a bad idea.
Looks a very thin book that one, two chapters perhaps?

That was a special edition, it also came with a copy of Clare’s Fighting Story written on the back page.
