Dias is the first defender to win the award since Steve Nicol back in 1989 and he also becomes only the third player to win the FWA award in their first season in England, following Jurgen Klinsmann (1995) and Gianfranco Zola (1997)
He looks very shook there. There was talks of him being retired off or replaced by Ian Darke a good 15 years ago yet he is still at it.
He’s well into his 70’s now in fairness.
There was a big pulaver around the time Gerrard got the winner against Olympiacos back around 2005 when Andy Grey had to step in and capture the moment and it was seen as another example if him slowing down and not being able for it. Ian Darke started getting a lot of big games after that before he went off to the US.
Yet he is still chugging away
The commentators on Sky are beyond brutal.
Tyler has genuinely sounded like a lad out from a nursing home commentating for the past decade.
Crocker is dreadful on Scottish football.
The other lad that does the big games is very bland and tries too hard at the big moments.
BT’s commentators are much better but I can’t understand how they give Ian Darke so many big games when he is utterly useless. He used to be dreadful with boxing on Sky but he’s far worse on football, genuinely clueless and getting outraged about things he clearly doesn’t understand.
Rob Hawthorne is the other guy, distinctly average.
