The Official TFK Nimby thread

Four trees and a wall.

All so the likes of Pam can keep Iveagh Gardens free from ordinary Dubliners who don’t have a clue it exists.

And all to stop a world class science centre for the city.

There is a grand children’s science museum in Sandyford already. The Iveagh grounds is a tremendous concert/ event venue. Any Dubliner who is interested in going to gigs knows where it is.

Planning system in this country is in major need of reform.

Should be one objection phase. Once a ruling is made then fuck off out of it

What I want to know is who is going to buy all this wind once we have farmed it?

Data centres. Any combination of sources would.be gladly accepted as hugely energy intensive and AI bringing that demand magnitudes more

For foreign data and our own data homeless

We’ve banned new data centres though

Tech companies like their data centres near their ops so we’ll see a decline in new tech investment over next decade as a result

have you a link to this ban on data cenrtres mate?

Have we?

Tech companies like their data centres near their ops

Do they?

Data centres are going to be like power substations. A grid network will be needed to service the demands of ai, iot iiot and more. They will be proliferated everywhere globally.

Theres little to gain short-term if comes at the expense of our national grid. Once built, they offer little by way of direct employment or taxable revenue.

They want r and d and campuses near data centres. Google tik tok Microsoft and now Amazon have moved investment elsewhere.

If that’s a policy of the government that’s fine but they need to accept consequences of that policy decision

Think that’s what prompted this mornings discussion above

Incredible that we have county councils in charge of approving critical investment developments and passenger caps.

South Dublin County Council banning data centres because some People Before Profit want “eco socialism” (aka they want to overthrow capitalism).

We can barely get new renewables connected and the grid is stressed to the gills.

A dc provides fuck all employment post-install.

Makes little commercial sense unless we are getting amazon to invest in upgrading the network as its operation comes at the expense of everyone on the island
