The official TFK solar panel thread

Got the panels up and running on the 4th April and this was the result for the month, they are a great job

Nice big roof you have anyway

feel free to say thanks eamo

For any of ye that have had these installed recently, are the companies all quoting over the phone?
Rang one today only to be told that the proposal would be emailed to me, no site visit. Our house would be an unusual shape and the roof is at a 2 different pitches as a result. It smelled of an attitude of fire it up ta fuck and disappear into the ether… is that the norm?

Edit: Locally the company would have a reasonable reputation…

Another new high here but I’d say I need mid June to hit 50+

How do you charge the battery while taking practically nothing from the grid? Is your solar charging the batteries?

I have Sigenergy system with an AI module running the show. You feed the algorithm your electricity plan rates and it claims to do the rest. 16kw battery mops up the excess generated power if it’s not being used. Once the battery fills up then the excess gets sold to the grid.

You’d surely be better charging it at night and selling more excess back during the day? You get paid more for selling into the grid than what the cheap night rates cost?

Yes. I got rid of my solar diverter on this basis.

As I understand it, you fill your battery at night, and sell back during the day. I don’t understand it though, so there is that.
The total electricity bill for our gaff (and it is electric only), with the heating set to 20 everywhere, was 38 euro from halfway through Feb to halfway through April.
I try to set the washing machine and dishwasher to go at 2am and avoid the tumble dryer if possible, using a heated clothes rack instead.
I would prefer our bedroom be about 15 degrees or less, but I can’t get it to go less than 20 even with the gauge set to 14 and the window open.

We had a site visit. They noticed an issue with my fuse box (which I replaced) and some advise on a redundant chimney (which I also replaced) before they would install. The site visit was well worth it. If they had landed on site based on an email/phone conversation they would not have been able to complete the install.

Thanks…

We had a quote from a lad who visited the site and 1 who didn’t. The lad who didn’t quoted off what he could see on Google Maps on our roof.

The lad who visited explained that the pitch of our extension would render 1 panel fairly useless for 50% of the day and realized we’d need a new firewall in our attic for the batteries.

The lad who didn’t visit us was slightly cheaper and we got the lad who visited us to match his price in the end and got something that felt much more thorough and thought through.

If you’ve any kind of an awkward structure then get someone out to look at it. It’s a big enough investment you’re making that it’s not unreasonable for someone to come and look at the house first.

Plenty batteries gone into attics and no talk of the fire hazard side of it. It’s a risk and should be mitigated as much as possible

I’ve gotten the ball rolling on getting a consulation on this, lest the drone of the Heat Pump all winter starts giving me nightmares again next winter.

What size is the average battery roughly? I only have a crawlspace for an attic so not sure if it is feasible to put a battery up there, so might have to look at other options

What’s the issue here pal?

Most companies have an outdoor inverter/battery option now too from what I know

The drone of the heat pump I think.

First bill received since these went in. A 40 quid credit based on the amount I sold back to the grid against a much lower set of charges. The system works!!
