The official TFK solar panel thread

Mightn’t be cost effective for me, bro.

Go for it

Your reduction in bills will pay for it

I eagerly await a thorough, thoughtful pm on this

There isn’t much economic benefit from installing panels bar increasing the value of your house short term if you’re planning to sell it.

Did you proceed in the end mate? Looking into it myself as it makes sense with the Air to Water system to try to generate as much as possible off the solar PV panels.

You get a credit now on the electricity bill for excess sent back to the grid; looking at one of those Solar Panel groups on Facebook and some are generating up to 40kwh per day with their set up.

Solar is for commercial sites with big elec bills. Can get a mush shorter payback

We went this route. Credit comes back twice a year (obviously paying you less per kwh than you’re paying them) so we haven’t received anything yet (I think May is first payment).

Our house was new build so they all came with PV panels as standard. I’ll report back when I know how much they actually generated

Is it worth throwing them up? Anyone have them with a heat pump?

My mate sold them for yonks
Tbh he’s not overly impressed
Simply by the fact that the initial outlay costs a fair bit
And takes years to get back what you invested
By then your equipment would be outdated

Personally I’d love them installed

It is with vat off plus the grant.

The more you using, the more you save.

Best paired with a smart meter night rate plan though.

Have a set up since spring of last year. For the 9 months i had them, it generated near enough 50% of power used. Even today got 21kWh. In terms of savings or pay back, based on those figures and costs now, it’ll be about 5 years to have it paid off. Thats not factoring in microregen too, so could work out better. We have a heat pump and a well and pump on that too, office is on the meter as well so use quite a fair bit. Got a change over switch too as power has been dropping out locally for past few years and need to have power in the office so works out well with 10kw battery backup. No vat and €2.4k grant helps too.

21kw is huge

Wont get the grant. Some brains put in that the house has to be built before 2021

Sunny south east bud, we get great totals here. Got 900kWh in June, December down to 230kWh for the month.

How much energy do you use a day

Quite a lot! And then depends on who’s at home or in the office and whats being used. Solar certainly helps things now anyway.
