ROC hold off Japan by just 0.103 points to win the men’s team gymnastics. Daiki Hashimoto, nicknamed “The Man of Infinite Stamina”, put in a smashing high bar routine but it wasn’t quite enough. The PROC had a bad final rotation to fall back into third.

Nick O’Hare and Earl McCarthy at loggerheads over Brendan Hyland’s participation in the 200 metres butterfly.

In studio Earl wasn’t happy at Hyland’s inclusion on a B time.

On co-commentary Nick is categorical that the selection is correct because otherwise we wouldn’t have had a relay team.

I’d like to see a 15 minute segment set up between the two to thrash out the arguments.

It’s a good while since I’ve seen Dr. Gary O’Toole do swimming analysis on RTE. He wasn’t there in 2016. He’s more of an occasional Second Captains/Off the Ball Sunday newspaper review head these days.
