ROC a great second half
This is a massive moment for the small Irish rowing community, which, as a two time Goonan Cup veteran and old mate of multiple Olympian Gearoid Towey, I class myself as part of.
But I’m cautioned by the last time a Cork person went into an Olympic final as the hot favourite, and David Gillick’s blasé overconfidence reminds me of Eamonn Coghlan blithely stating that Sonia would destroy the field that horrible night in 1996, which is 25 years ago almost to the minute. As John Treacy cautioned before that race, this is an Olympic final.
