Flashing Steel, Fissure Seal. They donāt make em like that anymore. Redundant Pal was another one
Ebony Jane, Feathered Gale, Strong Beau, Son of War, Jodami, King of the Gales - halycon times
Black Jack Ketchum for Jonjo O Neill has gone to the gallops in the sky.
I remember the TV saying that some punter had placed a significant bet on him to win the next 3 world hurdles. He fell later on that day and wasnāt the same horse after it.
Red Marauder. I hope he gets heavy ground in the sky
He was a huge talking horse around that time but amounted to nothing. Who trained him?
John joe
JohnJoe wouldnāt train lassie to bark no wonder Black Jack Ketchum did fuck all.
Ah here. JJ has an unbelievable roll of honour. He won a GC very recently. Eaten bread is soon forgotten and all that.
Heās past it now alright I think but he was well able to produce em
All he knew what to do was run his horses dishonestly all year until they got to Cheltenham where their handicap mark was so lenient he would pop up with a few wins in handicaps. Give him a top horse and he wouldnāt know what to do with it.
Assume your joking
A handicap mark isnāt much good to you in the gold cup.
What about Albertas Run? Iris Gift? Intersky Falcon? Synchronised? Taquin de Seuil?
He has a gold cup a grand national and bags of other cheltenham wins even excluding the handicaps.
John Joe is a legend of the game in fairness
More of that too, Johnjo could get a good one spot on for a grade 1.
Were any of those horses you named superstars? Did they win anything bar one or maybe two good pots each? If another decent trainer had the same horses would he have done the same or better? Maybe, maybe not. If I had a good horse I could think of 15 NH trainers I would send it to before Johnjoe.
So could Iā¦nowā¦but his career has spanned 20 years
Would you not consider synchronised a superstar? Lexus, gold cup, Welsh national before he was killed at 9?
Your being very harsh based on his form over last few years. Could you name 15 trainers with more big races winners than him over the last 20 years I wonder? Only 4 lads with more festival winners than him
Sure heās training forever and has the big patronage of PJ McManus behind him donkey years. Its easy for him have more festival winners than Elliot, De Bromhead, Skelton, Greatrex who are only doing it maybe a third of the time at most that Johnjoe is. His career has spanned what, 30 or so years as a trainer and Synchronised is the best horse he can lay claim to have trained?
You said he wouldnāt train lassie to bark. Clearly not the case. Now Iām not having this pointless argument with you anymore as I doubt our views will agree any time soon.
Iāll name them - 15 national hunt trainers Iād give a horse to before Johnjoe. For argument sake the horse is a 5yr old with the ability to win a bumper first time up. In no particular order:
- Willie
- Elliot
- De Bromhead
- Mouse
- Charles
- Harrington
- Cromwell
- Denis Hogan
- Nicholls
- Fry
- Skelton
- Greatrex
- Tizzard
- Mulholland
- Weld
Letās make it 20.
16 Venetia Williams
17 Joseph OāBrien
18 Gary Moore
19 Twiston Davies
20 King
On top of that Iāve purposefully left out a few high profile trainers who you could argue are better than Johnjoe, but I just donāt warm to them or rate them as much as the others I included - Nicky Henderson, Meade, Hobbs, David Pipe, Bolger. Some going for a supposedly top trainer to not be missed out of that list of 25 names.
back in 2006 when i was selling coke i put 300 quid on BJK at 4/6 to win a long distance hurdle in Aintree on the friday, he obliged
i remember well allright the yarn about the guy who put 14k i think on him for that treble
Hi Cloy won the same day in aintree for Hourihan beat Central House
that was around the time every winter sunday youād back Nickname at evens and every thursday in thurles youād back nine-o and make a fortune
Your a gas man
You donāt rate Nicky Henderson?
