Agree with @anon61878697. Sounds like the IT Band. I had IT band issues there once and was told I needed to strengthen my core. It worked a treat.
Do a few planks and you will have no more pain producing stools.

my gym is closed for the foreseeable thanks to the fire and I dont really have the time for it any way presently – but a handy 20 - 30 mins just outside my door can be done twice a week.
