Link mate? Thinking of adding one of these in too
Thanks mate
Anyone have any good speed sessions they use for training?
You’re training for a 10k?
Now I don’t do these too often preferring ‘fartlek’ style speedwork, make that up as you go along
But here’s some popular workouts
6 x 400m at 5k pace with a 200m slow jog between them
4 x 1 miles at 10k pace with a minute rest between (stick to your target pace, don’t try faster)
If you have a gentle hill try 8 x 1 minute sprints up the hill and jog very slowly back down
Make sure to warm up and cool down well with easy jogging.
These are 3 separate workouts, not to be done together
Cheers. Did a variation of this which is fairly boring but useful I guess. Have a hill close to me which is about 150m long with an incline of about 8 metres. Did 1km warm up and cool down and then 10 ‘sprints’ which were more like a fast jog but sure I may start somewhere.
Getting a little sharper ahead of the TFK 10km in a few weeks.
Gave the Ravennas a test drive today @backinatracksuit and ended up out for a longer run than anticipated. Felt good throughout.
Didn’t want to clog up the charity run thread but just for the more experienced runners, what would your opinions on heart rate be? Should they be relatively consistent from run to run? Just wondering because doing the 5k the other day my heart rate for the first kilometre was 137bpm for a 4:48 kilometre, while I did a 1k for time there today in 3:31, and my heart rate was only 119bpm which seems a bit mad
I find my first km tends to be very inconsistent.
Are you using the strap? If the sensors aren’t wet, it can often spike or drop really low. Might be a glitch with mine, but it’s often thrown up that my heart rate is hitting high 160s and I barely out the door jogging . A quick spit (sorry) on the hand and a rub of it inside the monitor and it’ll drop straight away to a normal HR
What device are you using ?
Years ago I got some Lidl job as a stop gap. My heart rate never went beyond 120
I find it varies a huge amount. Mostly I think related to just how tired/sore my muscles are. For instance, today’s 5K, which was a right struggle (and in greater heat, in fairness), I was above 170 early doors and maxed at 180:
A run earlier in the week, when the legs were much more rested and in cooler temps, I maxed at 158 and didn’'t break 150 until well into the run:
I was pushing today in fairness but at the same time there was less than 30 seconds in the difference over 5k. Using a Garmin Vivoactive, have checked it against a blood pressure monitor a few times and it was bang on in fairness.
My 1200 pushups for May challenge with my buddy completed.
He’s now suggesting a Turkish Get Up challenge for June. Considering you’re our resident Turk and fitness fad go to , what do you reckon ?
