The Rugby Thread (Part 1)

This article is really disappointing. There’s no way we waited 24 hours for calling out this sham.

Isn’t Will Slattery like Ewan McKenna who get their edgy opinions from here so they can mask their mediocre writing?

That’s a class article.

Summary:

It’s nonsense to suggest the game was a friendly.

Why?

Because I said so.

I’ve seen a few comments on twitter which sought to distinguish Saturday’s game with football friendlies on the basis that world ranking points were at stake in Chicago - I’m pretty sure there are world ranking points for football friendlies too; @Horsebox, look into this and report back please.

I’m going to jump right in here and confirm this.

That’s up to football whether to call them friendlies or not so. It really shines a light on the insular Oirish association football fan (who enjoys British soccer) that the only lense they see sport through is international association football. Especially those who on occasion claim to be fans of Test Match cricket.

Maybe if FIFA/UEFA ditched calling them friendlies then the 26 County team could get a few more punters into the home of Irish rugby football. Though they struggle to get them in for qualifying games so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Apparently the only thing missing from the Irish rugby CV is a World Cup semi-final appearance. Did we win the World Cup without playing a semi-final or something?

I actually stopped reading after he mentioned the 24 hours bit.

That simpleton @GeoffreyBoycott tried that one.

You need a ride

Great to see all the rugby “fans” crawling back out from under their rocks in recent weeks

I’ve no issue with friendly games being described as friendlies whether they’re football or rugby football, pal. I was just seeking clarification on the question of world ranking points as various commentators and indeed the writer of the quoted article raised the direct comparison with football friendlies and (it turns out) incorrectly claimed or implied there are no ranking points in these fixtures.

So you have no issue, that’s grand, that’ll be tucked away for future reference.

Fuck off you sex pest.

You must be thinking about it if you’re enquiring about prenups:heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

I thought you didn’t get any sex once you married her.

You’ll have great fun with that when the soccer fans carry on with their usual references to soccer test matches.
