The Sash my Father wore

It’s great for Mr. Brown that his son won a load of Premierships but his son did not play for the same team he did.

One of the saddest sights I’ve seen in Aussie Rules is old time supporters trying to pretend their long defunct teams still actually exist because they carry the name of the same animal. The Brisbane Lions and the Sydney Swans are as much the same clubs as Fitzroy and South Melbourne as Millwall and Swansea City are.

What a side that Peru outfit were. The great Teo Cubillas in picture, Velasquez, Chumpitaz, Oblitas to name a few. Cubillas scored a free kick from about 40 in one of the group matches although they shipped a few trimmings. A wonderful carefree style to them.

St Peters College, Wexford had same as Peru (except green stripe)

I’m sure some past pupils could expand if there is a link between Peters and Peru

Sure they took a shameful dive against Argentina in the second round to let them go through to the Final. 6-0. All at the behest of the Argentinian Junta.

Ramon Quiroga in the goal was a fair operator too.

And Ahane

I think Ballybrown had the band when I came to Limerick first, but lost it. Emeralds in kk are another one.

And Clonad, who are also green and gold

And Borris Kilcotton

Which came from Kilcottons jersey, which again had the green and gold

Lovely stuff. Scotland were a great team in those days to have a laugh at for the way they’d get knocked out of World Cups that they had convinced themselves they were going to win.

Ma Haugh on the back right would be a serious contender for the Roaster thread.

A right character

Loughrea hurlers are also long time sash merchants.

The Stakers used to be green with a gold sash.

There’s a story to tell behind all these green jerseys with a gold sash, you can bet your bollocks on it.

The best story I heard recently about a sash jersey was Portarlingtons.

Faughs wear yellow with a green sash. Always have done.

Now they are green with a gold stash.

Bit like Irish rugby

Boherlahan in Tipperary also wear a sash. Blue with Gold sash as far as I recall. We had to learn these things for Scór question time back in the day.

Tullaroan another I think?
