@EstebanSexface retreating to the hills again I see
I was wrong Laz. I picked up Lionel in the wrong and went in harder than was necessary.
We move on
Have amended.
We move on.
If only that chap was a hybrid of @Fran and @Ambrose_McNulty I’m sure he’d be a terrific prime time host.
I gree with a lot of what you’re saying, except for this bit. Plenty of parents home-schooled (structured and unstructured homeschooling) their kids prior to the lockdown, and there is a body of evidence pointing to the benefits of this approach. No more than anything, formal schooling and homeschooling have their pros and cons.
If you have the time to devote to it and the necessary know how when it gets to secondary education I’m sure you could do a far better job in a purely academic sense
Absolutely, but not just in an academic sense. I know families with homeschooled teens. They are very well-rounded kids, and far more sociable than some of their school-going peers.
Yep. The key to me is this
So there’s really strong, compelling evidence that, especially for children from lower income households and backgrounds, that access to high quality early childcare programming really helps lessen some of the achievement gaps that have been documented for children from wealthier families and households as compared to lower income households
Nobody seems to be advocating for children in all this and the long life term effects not being allowed go to school will have particularly kids from poorer economic backgrounds. The schools need to be opened for them.
I suppose this new found social conscience and concern for the less well off means you will be voting left from now on? Richard Boyd Barrett will be delighted with your number 1.
I’ve always been an advocate of education and particularly early education and have posted about the great work Early Learning Initiative do.
Is RBB forcefully raising this issue?
RBB prefers to keep people in a position where they are his clients.
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela
This has never been about anything other than money and control. The finest example of that has been the shifting narrative in relation to old people in nursing homes.
Old people dying in nursing homes due to Covid: “This is a fucking travesty and something must be done about it. Shut everything down, quick!”
Old people dying in nursing homes from a rushed-through vaccine with inadequate safety data: “Old people die in nursing homes every day. There is nothing to see here. Move on.”
Unfortunately, children are collatoral damage in all of this, as are all the people that will die due to unemployment-related issues. Do you remember the scene in “The Big Short” where the two Wall Street guys were beaming about their windfall from betting on the recession? Brad Pitt’s character read them the riot act because “every 1% unemployment goes up, 40,000 people die”.
That number isn’t a fabrication. It’s from “Corporate Flight: The Causes and Consequences of Economic Dislocation” and it is fucking frightening.
People can’t see it. It happens silently. It gets ignored.
I don’t think history will be kind to the reaction to Covid 19. The same lads cheerleading the group think will wring their hands when the non Covid but Covid related devastation is revealed.
I was only messing pal. I agree with you on this one
can the panic merchants and case number alarmists who went around saying they supported school closures as they were “shitting it” because of this nonsense virus be outed on here ?
I remember @TreatyStones was top of the list… he took Hoolahan’s bait after Christmas.
the same lads who lambasted the government for giving lads a break over Christmas will now be screaming at them saying the lockdown is too harsh
Yeah, Ive nothing against people homeschooled as a choice. It’s admirable in many ways. those parents who choose that option have an aptitude for it and do it as their main job.
@Mac saying the all ireland competitions had to go ahead on one hand then demanding for schools to be closed 4 weeks later was some pivot in fairness to him
