No the owner of sea the stars pulled out of his yard a few years later. He trained his brother but he wasnât great.
Did I ever tell ye that I was so overwhelmed by that year I wrote to John Oxx outlining my appreciation after the arc and he wrote me a letter back saying thanks and a few polite messages. I have it home back in Ireland
Thatâs a lovely touch.
Iâm sure Mr. Oxx has had your letter framed and placed in a prominent position in his operation.
Every morning as the work day begins he points to it, reminding the staff how their hard work and effort can touch the heart of one of the foremost captains of industry in the UK causing them to put in the extra % of effort.
Its a bit like the âThis is Anfieldâ logo that meant to energise the men in red. Great shout.
Was it Mick wallace that got you John Oxxâs address?
The Arc post race reactions between the BBC and Oxx/Kinane were magical. I watch that Arc every other month.
Iâm the same itâs wonderful.
I loved Mick Kinanes reaction when asked once â10 furlongs at The Curragh, Tom Queally on Frankel, MJ Kinane on Sea The Stars, Who wins?â
A wry smile and Sea The Stars was reply.
Sometimes when Im feeling down the dumps and the challenges ahead are all but impossible, I think of Sea The Stars weaving his way up the inside though all that traffic before powering home on the sacrad Longchamp turf and I feel emboldened and ready to take on the world again
Thereâs a guineas crossover video on YouTube of their runs in Newmarket transposed. STS beats him by half length and he was in stall 8 which is a big handicap over a mile at Newmarket
When asked if heâd have won the leger over 1m6f. Ah he would says Mick⌠wouldnât even come off the bridle
I love the story of Lester presenting Mick with the trophy at The Guineas and Lester micschiveously whispering in his ear, âWill he stay?â
He got a clear run up the rail until the two that had cut their throat came back to him and then he got a free pass to swing out.
I donât think you get horse racing
Lester and Kinane- 2 silent assasins. Kinane and Shane McGowan are 2 of my heroes, when ye produce em ye produce em. Kills me to say
STS winning time was 1.5 seconds faster than Frankel on similar ground. A mile was much too short for him but that just showed his exceptional class that to me puts him well ahead of Frankel. His versatility over 8 to 12 furlongs will never be surpassed. I still get a chill when I watch the documentary when after Kinane gets off him for the first time as a 2 year old he says to Oxx âthis fella makes going fast very easyâ. He knew at that early stage they had a special animal.
Ya I love that story. Lester was a woeful punter for a finish.
Iâd love to get this picture in high quality. Itâs about two and a half furlongs from home in derby. Everyone is off the bridle and kinane is motionless.
Thatâs a thing of beauty. Itâs like heâs out for a morning canter, towers over all of them
