Tony McCoy talking about Pat Smullen on sky earlier. Very emotional. He said in piece that pat took over in Welds yard from the greatest rider I’ve ever seen- Michael Kinane.
Kinane and smullen very similar - two unassuming fellas with huge talent
I’m watching the Arc again
Ruby was very emotional too on radio this morning.
It’s just so sad.
I was listening to Gary o brien podcast yesterday and some lad on it was saying he was at the bereford stakes the year sea the stars won it. He met John Magnier at the gates afterwards and asked him to sign his race card. Magnier signed it and under sea the stars he wrote keep an eye on that horse!
Fran Berry is a must listen to on yesterday’s nick luck podcast. He confirms sea the stars worked ten days after the arc and they reckon it was his best piece of work.
He told a few other great stories about being sea the stars work rider.
John Ox is retiring I read this week

To think TLLS could be interviewing the man who trained the greatest racehorse of all time on his retirement and give the whole country a lift when they need it most, and there he is yet again with some juiced up egg and spoon merchant instead
I just watched his Arc win again twice. Once with Aussie Jim and once with French commentators. I’ve just realised that I must have watched that race, or at least the finish of it nearly 100 times now and I’ve never once looked at what horses are where behind him. Once Mick gets him through the gap he’s all I can look at. Poetry in fucking motion.
‘Perfection in equine form’
I watched his Champion Stakes win with my father during the week.
When the newspaper is thrown in the air as he comes up to the line, we both got really emotional.
Does the late great Azamour get a mention here?
It’s the greatest piece of sporting motion picture of all time. That jink as Kinane finds the gap is liquid and he never breaks a stride and thunders home.
THE HORSE OF A LIFETIME.
The greats can just make it look routine a very good horse would never have found the gap that STS did
Anyone remember Sorbus? Text my old man and he said was worse then Henry handball and Keady put together
I love the way Oxx speaks in such a soft tone about Sea The Stars.
“Brilliant athlete, wonderful temperament”.
It would make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck listening to it.
