The Sing Song Thread

Christ, may the lord save my soul

Had a great sing song Sunday morning in a small little pub on the outskirts of Carlow town. First good one Iā€™ve had in ages.

Whatā€™s your song to bring the house down mate?

I sang two, Hand me down my Bible & Back Home in Derry.
A local auld lad got a guitar from behind the bar and joined in with us.

Something like that if spontaneous can be wonderful .

someone sang a song at a bbq i was at on Sunday night. A haunting version of Fiddlers Green. I got the goosebumps and all from it. Beautiful voice.

Then someone else lashed out the spoons and that was the beginning of the end

Lovely. A good sing song is nourishment for the soul.

It fell upon a holy day, as many in the year
Musgrave to the church did go, to see fine ladies thereā€¦

A pity you did not get a reply.

A fine song but Lord Baker is better

I thought @Big_Dan_Campbell would be in like Flynn

Lord Bernard was a fine man in fairness

He was dead right too.

He gave the little scamp a fair go and a dignified burial, a man you wonā€™t meet everyday.

If this be true my little foot page,
This thing thou tellest me,
Then all the gold in Bucklesfordbury I gladly will give to thee
But if this be a lie my little foot page
This thing thou tellest me
From the highest tree in Bucklesfordbury
Hanging you will be

I brought tortoises from Tenerife,
Ties from timbuktu,
A China rat, a benegal cat
And a Bombay cockatoo

Oh Mary this Londonā€™s a wonderful sight
Thereā€™s people here working by day and by night
They donā€™t sow potatoes nor barley nor wheat
Thereā€™s gangs of them digginā€™ for gold in the streetā€¦

I like my living and my liquor hard.
Wonā€™t the Lord save my soul?

My salvation was a turn of the card
My hearts as black as coal

Visiting the war graves here (the British do a smashing job of honouring their war dead) I found I could remember every word of the Green Fields of France (not necessarily in the right order). Iā€™d say itā€™s a minimum of thirty years since I sang that song. Itā€™s extraordinary how the songs memorized when younger stick in the brain.

I was singing that song myself in the American graveyard at Omaha Beach a few weeks back, you canā€™t help yourself really :man_shrugging:
