Nothing alike?
Itâs not like weâre discussing Dylan versus NWA here?
Originality and ultimately quality is a key thing for me. The Seattle scene never bothered me hugely although I liked Nirvana and I thought Cobain was a very much gifted individual. Much of their influences were around Pixies or Husker Du or even back as far as the Wipers, Pere Ubu etc. I donât think that the Pumpkins did much only to carry that on with to me less quality.
Someone like Sonic Youth are a band that I would hugely rate. Completely different and original in terms of sound and very difficult to highlight their influences.
This album stirred me in my seat when I heard it. I canât imagine what it would have done over 20 years previously when it was released.

I was gonna post their version of the Carpenters âSuperstarâ but itâs already in the thread twice.

Thatâs a cracker.
Throw all sorts of samples and noices in a bowl, stir and cook for a number of minutes. This is the result.

Before the Verve were huge, their best song IMO

Great band and song and album. All three of their 90s albums have held up really well, and Fourth wasnât a bad comeback effort compared to most. Nick McCabe is one of my favorite musicians from that era, a truly tasteful guitarist. As it happens my favorite Verve song is the next on A Northern Soul, So It Goes.
