The Snooker Thread (Part 1)

Stephen Maguire beat Judd Trump 6-4 to set up a second round meeting with Shaun Murphy. The Glasgow potter lost the first two frames and needed a snooker in the third to stop himself from going 3-0 down. He got the snooker and played brilliantly from then on to record a fine victory.[/QUOTE]

Always interesting when Maguire and Murphy meet. They really don’t like each other.

John Higgins and Mark Allen locked at 3-3 at the moment. Lovely break of 92 from Higgins just there to level it up.

Hon John

Allen 5-3 up now. Higgins threw the last frame away allowing Allen to snooker him and then clear up to pinch the frame on the black.

Higgins in with a chance for a 147 here, 9 reds and 9 blacks potted and he’s in prime position.Higgins had to stop and ask ref Jan Verhass if he was on for the maximum as Allen had given up 14 points in fouls before he potted his first red.

15 reds potted but Higgins plays the final black poorly and misses the subsequent long yellow. 120 break but more importantly it’s 5-4 now.

Higgins was in but missed a plant and Allen stepped in to clear up and win 6-4. Very high quality game. I don’t like Allen though, and I hope the winner of tonight’s game between Ding Junhui and Joe Perry beats him in the 1/4 final.

Gentleman Joe Perry 3-1 up on Ding.

Ding seems to be gone to fuck recently. I was surprised to see him 3 in the world.

Unbelievable frame just there. Ding looked to have it in the bag as Perry needed three snookers. Perry snookered him on the green then Ding incredibly hit the black and left a free ball, Perry cleared up and nicked the frame by one point and leads 4-2.

Perry misses a yellow to win the frame and then plays a poor shot on the pink when he got a second chance. 4-3 now, Ding showed a lot of bottle to win that.

Perry takes a scrappy frame to lead 5-3, one away from victory.

Quarter Final line up complete

Ronnie -v- Marco Fu
Ali Carter -v- Neil Robertson

Joe Perry -v- Mark Allen
Stephen Maguire -v- Shaun Murphy

Perry wraps it up with a 104 clearance.

Ronnie’s fucked here against Robertson. 5-1 down, and he hasn’t potted a ball in half an hour.

Very impressive 6-1 win for Robertson over Ronnie.

Has Ronnie announced his retirement yet?

heard he had a bad turn before the match

3/1 Shaun Murphy very tempting now. Been solid as a rock all week

Leading Ireland’s Mark Allen 5-2, live on BBC2 now.
