The Snooker Thread (Part 1)

The first qualifying round continues today. Fergal O’Brien leads Hammad Miah 4-2, Steve Davis is 5-3 up on Jamie Cope and The Outlaw Joe Swail leads Swiss potter Alexander Ursenbacher 5-1.

Fergal O’Brien and Joe Swail both advance.

Six times champions Steve Davis and Jamie Cope currently in a deciding frame.

Steve Davis won the deciding frame on the black.

Jimmy White gets his latest assault on that elusive first World Championship under way with a 10-3 win over James Wattana. Next up for the Whirlwind, Matthew Selt.

Great news. I feel that this could finally be Jimmy’s year.

Contrasting fortunes tonight for the combatants from that epic final of 2006. Peter Ebdon is out, losing 10-7 to Stuart Carrington. The irrepressible Graeme Dott advances though, demolishing his fellow Scot, Fraser Patrick 10-2.

Good morning for the Whirlwind. Leading Matthew Selt 6-2.

7-2 now.

great stuff from jimmy , hope he finishes off the job, it will mean he will be one game away from
the crucible since he was last here in 06. ken and fergal have good draws as well,

Selt has taken the first four frames of the evening to get back to 7-6 down.

Jimmy goes 8-6 up after trailing for most of that frame.

White 8 Selt 7

Great day for the Irish at Ponds Forge. Ken Doherty defeated Lee Waker 10-6 but faces a daunting task in the last qualifying round against bang in form world #18 Mark Davis. Fergal O’Brien beat Chris Wakelin 10-8 and faces Kurt Maflin in the final round. The Cockney Norwegian hammered the legendary Steve Davis 10-1 earlier.

And final word goes to Joe Swail. The Outlaw was 9-5 down to Dominic Dale before reeling off five frames in a row to dump last years quarter finalist out. Swail plays Matthew Stevens for a place at The Crucible.

White 8 Selt 8

Looking ominous.

White 8 Selt 9

A frame Jimmy could have won but a tremendous long pot on the yellow and position won it for Selt.

All over. Jimmy is out. 10-8. Hugely disappointing after the morning session.

White 8 Selt 10.

Bizarre concession from Jimmy at the end when he might have had a chance to get snookers.

Bad day for Ken as he was mauled 8-1 by Mark Davis, he needs a miracle tomorrow. Better news for Fergal O’Brien as he leads Kurt Maflin 6-3 and is four frames away from the Crucible.
