The Snooker Thread (Part 2)

Fair play to Higgins. A class act.

Not so sure about that. Williams and Higgins were both dreadful for long stretches of their quarter finals. Bad sign for the sport that the younger generation in Yan and Lisowski hadn’t the cojones to get the job done with old men opponents on the ropes.

Ronnie was spot on in everything he said a few years ago about the younger generation been utterly shit and he could go on winning well into his 50’s.

Snooker is fucked when the 3 lads retire.

Championship snooker of the very highest standard from John Higgins in those last two frames.

Hopefully Lisowski can come back stronger from this, it has been a good tournament for him. That sort of miss can haunt a player though.

Very harsh on Yan. He is 22 years old.

Higgins is not a class act. He brought disgrace on himself and the sport and should be serving a lifetime ban from the sport alongside the likes of Stephen Lee.

He is a class act on the snooker table

He has far more steel than Ding ever had, has a cuntish streak in him too which all the top players require. A definite future world champion.

The words ‘class act’ and John Higgins should never feature in the same sentence.

Jack was playing for Ukraine but John Higgins is also familiar with Ukraine and he’ll take on Jack’s mantle now.

100 percent. Once he improves his cue ball, he will be some force. That can be learned. He has everything else.

Neil Robertson should really be kicking himself.

Williams won those last three frames, Yan didn’t lose them. Yan has the stones, he showed it against Selby.

John is looking very fresh faced and trim in fairness.

The annual John Higgins is a cheat argument raising it’s head again

John Higgins will not fear Ronnie O’Sullivan, that is for sure.

O’Sullivan won the 2001 final but Higgins won a semi-final against O’Sullivan in 1998 (easily if I recall) and a quarter-final in 2011.

Can’t think of any of any other Crucible clashes between them off the top of my head.

Ronnie won their first meeting, 13-12 in the Quarter Finals in 1996. Higgins missed a pink (that he should have got) with the rest for a 13-11 win. Ronnie stepped into level at 12-12 and win the decider.

Williams and Trump have never met at The Crucible.

Yeah I forgot that one, remember it now. Higgins blew it. Was Wikipediaing it there and Higgins beat O’Sullivan in a quarter-final in 2007 as well. Higgins has a 3-2 advantage in Crucible clashes.

Between the three (including Mark Williams) Higgins likes playing O’Sullivan, O’Sullivan loves playing Williams (he has a 5-0 record over him at the Crucible), while Williams likes playing Higgins (he has a 3-1 record).

Williams is 4-1 against Higgins at the Crucible. Semi Finals in 1999 & 2000, Final in 2018 and Second Round in 2020. Lost semi final in 2011.

First time since 1999 that all 3 of the ‘Class of 92’ have made it to the semi finals in the same year.

Higgins has an excellent record in semi-finals. 2000 against Williams since he lost one. 2006 since O’Sullivan lost one.

O’Sullivan could blow him away but the longer Higgins makes it close the more I’d fancy him.

I predicted a Higgins-Williams final before the quarter-finals so I’ll stick with that. Think Williams will win it out.
