The Sport of Kings & Equine Matters šŸ

SS would have better knowledge of this that myself, but Iā€™d reckon Charlie Burns yard would be right up there (jumps). Had a friend working there for a while and they landed some huges bets, he never led me wrong with his tips anyways.

charlie byrnes and tony martin are two that i have noticedā€¦wouldnā€™t be as keen a judge of the flat bettingā€¦

anyone any ponies for the weekendā€¦

Charlie would be a major punter but itā€™s very, very hard to make it pay no matter how good you are. Charlieā€™s horses ended up being over bet at times and trying to get the money down is the biggest problem. The bookmakers are killing the game because you canā€™t get on. In the old days you could go to Sean Graham and have a right lump on or in England you could get on with Pat Whelan or Chandler. Now you canā€™t get anything on, they say some of the big boys bet underground now against each other as they canā€™t get on elsewhere, Curley certainly did anyway and who could blame them. The likes of Ladbrokes, Hills and Powers etc only want to recycle dole money, they donā€™t want anyone who wants a proper bet. They say weā€™re in the golden era of gambling, we are in our bollocks, we are in the dark ages, sure the margins have tightened but whatā€™s the use when you canā€™t have a bet. Itā€™s all knockbacks now. It usually doesnā€™t affect me as my stakes are ordinary but when you canā€™t even get a hundred quid on something itā€™s time to pack it in. Anyway I hear Ladbrokes are fcuked so that will cheer alot of people up.

Off topic but I hear Celtic are in bigger trouble now. Heā€™s one of the few that doesnt have an offshore operation to move money through to avoid tax so the increase in the budget is putting deeper holes in his pockets.

Great example of this happening this evening in Wolverhampton. Compton Court opened and 5ā€™s and drifted out to 15/2 but still won. Well worth the trip across for John Carr. Commentator said that there was a decent bit of money for it earlier in the day as well.

Santa Anita this weekendā€¦

Any thoughts lads. They are saying the new track will be a help to the European raiders.

TFK will have Shannonsider** on course, and I am sure we will all be updated with the word from the track as it happens.

Curlin is massive at 2/1, Henry and the Duke are overcooked at this stage after a long hard season, fancy Ravenā€™s Pass to run a big race though, gas the way Jimmy Fortune ā€œdecidedā€ to give up the ride, what a load of bollicks, the sheiks dirty paws all over that one anyway. The Americans own this event anyway, Europeans can only really compete on the turf aside from the odd freak like Johannesburg.

I was in a Celtic there on Saturday and they had a special - Curlin to win @ 3/1ā€¦max bet a Monkeyā€¦

This lad is going in a maiden hurdle in Thurles tomorrow will have a close eye on him to see how he goes.

Let me know how he goes Runt. Mate of mine was supposed to have a horse in the race but he got balloted out. Bags of potential but never really delivered.

Tell me about it

The layers are taking no chances with this fella today. Opened at 2/1 and alread 7/4 in spots. With the amount of rain that is falling this way the going should be quiet heavy in Thurles, which may or may not count against him. At that price Iā€™ll be keeping a watching brief.

Keep an eye on the price for see u bob as well. If you see it going down then throw a few quid on it. Have a look at the owner and youā€™ll understand

Good call Mac. Winner alright at 4/1.
Time Electric was a non-runner. Iā€™m assuming due to the terrible conditions.

I got a tip about this lad to NOT back him this afternoon but wasnā€™t able to post it up here. Was told the ground wouldnt suit him. Shows how good my sources are! Serious money gone on Lady Beneficial in the last.

Card from Santa Anita.

well lads anyone have any horses to watch out for over the weekendā€¦

here are my few: (all tomorrow)
irish raptor 2.50 chepstow

sixties icon 6.10 santa anita

curlin 11.45 santa anita

Curlin is huge at 2/1.

yeah was just looking there and i saw 7/4ā€¦thought it would be even money or close enough to itā€¦although there are plenty of classy horses in the field if curlin runs anyway decent i canā€™t see it being beatenā€¦

Looks like Galway could be off tomorrow along with Wexford. Itā€™s been a disasterous year for the tracks. There has been 34 meetings lost this year already due to the weather. Itā€™s a joke, the ones that do go ahead then end being massively over subscribed and fellas canā€™t runs for there horses.

A horse dealer friend of mine was down at the sales in Goresbridge during the week and he said they couldnā€™t give the horse away. There were a few race horses that traded hands for 500. I know of a well known trainer has nearly 40 horses on his farm that he bought over the past couple of years and now canā€™t sell on.

only colonel john or casino drive will bother him, forget about the European horses, Oā€™Brien is out of form and Ravenā€™s Pass more than likely wonā€™t stay, the 3 year olds will be horsed out of it anyway, DOM and Curlin are monsters
