What utter cack that was today, Brad apologising to Sal for the 47th time, that whinging bitch Martha giving Jack a hard time, and the sap starting to cry when she wouldn’t accept his apology. Coming hot on the heels of the Matilda meets Gaylord storyline, I can’t take much more.
Shocking stuff from Jack yesterday. Really poor couple of days.
The Kim revelation at the end made me laugh out loud though what with it coming on the back of the half a day last week where he was going to break up with Rachel.
Just a quick heads up here. My ntl digital reception has been gone all day. Initially I panicked thinking I would miss Home and Away but then I remembered I could watch it on the old, reliable terrestrial platform. You may have to do likewise.
Wise decision from me to record the terrestrial version so.
I love it when 'Ric Dalby talks with his fists.
An absolute dinger of an episode today.
Filed in the folder marked ‘class’.
Have to go see a man about a job now.
Maybe later though.
That’s feckin lousy bandage. I won’t see it later either. Full detailed spoiler required.
Brilliant episode today- just when I was getting fed up with the storylines there is finally some action. I am bored at work so Ill do a summary.
Ric walks in and throws his bags down and demands to know what is going on Cassie is all apologetic and is like its not what it seems. Macca apologises to Ric that they didnt want him to find out like this. Ric tells him to shut up and stay out of it and then starts laying into Macca. Sally runs in and breaks up the fight. Cassie stands around crying. Macca heads off and Ric wants to know how long it has been going on and was she with him when he came back as a surprise. He yells that she never stopped loving Macca and storms out.
Sally just stands there and cassie apologies to her as well. Sally gives her a big speech about how she has been through so much over the last few months and handled it all really well and sally was so proud but now she is disappointed in Cassie for lying to them all even after Sally and Mr. Stewart confronted her. Sally heads off upstairs.
Sally fills Alf and Martha in when they come back the christening. Alf is livid Flamin Mongreal as is Martha who storms of to find Macca.
Martha lays into Macca at Amandas house about how he had gained everyones trust and respect back and hes ruined it all now. He goes on about loving Cassie and that she wasnt happy but Martha is having none of it saying that she was with someone and he shouldnt have interfered.
Cassie is sitting on a fence at the beach and Macca comes along and ask how she is and does she want to back out and she says no she loves him and thats that. Sally comes along and Macca goes. Cassie asks Sally does she hate her and sally says no that their family. Sally says she doesnt understand how Cassie can go back to Macca after how he treated her Cassie blubs on about how she loves him so much and that she thought she could move on but she cant.
Back at the house Alf lays in to Cassie for upsetting Ric so much. Ric comes downstairs and ignores Cassie who tries to explain things again. Ric says that it wont work living together that either she goes or he goes. Sally and Alf are shocked at Ric. Sally says no way their family and family stick together that they got through it before when they broke up and they will get through it again. Cassie says its different this time and says she will move out Ric says good and when sally admonishes him he tells Sal that Cassie is in the wrong and she should be on his side. Sally says its not about sides. Cassie insists that it would be better if she moved out and that she will ask Irene can she stay to which Ric says the phone is over there. Ric goes upstairs and sally tells Cassie that she didnt want this.
Later Sally and Cassie come down with her bags packed and sally says she will wait outside. Cassie tells Ric she knows he hates her. Ric stands up and says that being in the same room as her makes him physically ill and he hates her for what she did to him making a fool of him in front of everyone, pretending she loved him. He storms out and Cassie falls to the ground crying. End of episode.
The other storylines were Dean trying to set up Mattie and Lucas up again he organises a picnic for them. Mattie and Lucas kiss. They then have a talk about how things have changed and they have moved on but that they will always be friends. At the end of the episode Alf fills Mattie in on Ric and Cassie breaking up.
Jack and Martha had been getting on great at the christening and agree to meet up for drinks later. When they meet Martha fills him in on Macca and Cassie. Jack lets on that he knew and Martha loses it. She goes off on Jack that he should have told her husbands and wifes should tell each other everything and this is just another indication of why the marriage is not working. Jack gets thick that Martha has too many rules and Martha storms off.
Great stuff Westie. Excellent summary.
Seems like Mr Stewart was more angry with Cassie than Sally was. There’s so much of Alf in 'Ric it’s great to see. Alf would have been furious if it had happened to him and 'Ric is the exact same. He doesn’t take shit from anyone.
Yeah Sally was just disappointed and hurt but would support Cassie anyway. Mr. Stewart was furious that Ric was hurt. When Sally told them that Cassie said Macca had changed Alf scoffed if I had a pound for every time I have heard that he is under no illusions about what a waste of space Macca is.
When Sal first told Martha and Alf, Mr. Stewart went off on one about ‘the two of them treating the rest of us like flamin’ galaaaaahs’. (what are galaaaahs? Anyone?). Then he goes, ‘Why would she want to get back with that low life?’, even though Martha is his brother. Legend.
“Galah” is also derogatory Australian slang, synonymous with ‘fool’ or ‘idiot’. Inquiries of Australian countrymen in the 1970s suggest that this is a misunderstanding. It seemed to be that the reference to a ‘silly galah’ is based on the sheer exuberance of the species and its willingness to indulge in play behaviour - galahs appear completely devoid of “dignified” or calm behaviour to the observer. Max [at Manly Vale WRL, 1977] held that galahs are very self-confident and have a great zest for life, and seem not in the least disturbed in anything they may care to do or be caught doing. It is very common to see them hanging by one leg from telephone or power lines in a rainstorm getting soaking wet and screeching with delight. There are many reports of them tobogganing down the corrugated roofs of outback buildings. A detailed, yet comedic description of the Australian slang term can be found in the standup comedy performance of Paul Hogan, titled Stand Up Hoges.
What’s your favourite clever script device used by the writers in the show?
My top two are:
- The look of truth
Usually takes place with a hug. A guy is hugging his girlfriend and they’re talking about their future together and how everything is rosy and they’re glad they’re both fully committed to the relationship. Then they embrace and the camera zooms in and you see one of them smiling contentedly while the other is all anxious, betraying their true emotions.
- The false dawn
I’ve noticed this a couple of times recently as a conclusion to a plot that has lasted over a few episodes. Basically we have a situation where we know there is something dodgy going on (we may be in on the truth, or as much in the dark as everyone else) and we are given a little clue as to how the situation is just about to resolve itself. Someone’s actions don’t fit in with our expectations so we smile to ourselves thinking we know the outcome. Then out of the blue, the writers twist the plot suddenly and we realise we were bluffed.
Recent examples were:
A) when we were figuring out who the pyro was. Nobody was sure and it could have been anyone from the Bay. Then we saw Dean looking very suspiciously and we saw how he could have the grudge against Drew. So I jumped ahead to conclusions and solved the case and wondered when the rest of the Bay will figure this out. Then all of a sudden the plot shifted and it was the fecking cop all along who was up to no good. Egg on my face.
http://www.thefreekick.com/board/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif when Cassie was scoring Macca in the Caravan Park. It was safe to assume that they were going to get caught during some episode. So we see them scoring, then it cuts to a scene at the Christening in the Beach House and we see Sally complaining of a headache and she needs to go home. (Often in Home and Away a headache is a sign of a tumour or something but sometimes it’s just used to resolve plots like this one). So Sally is heading to the Caravan Park. Cut scene back to Caravan Park and Cassie is about to leave. Macca persuades her to stay another half hour - plenty of time for Sally to make the trip. So more scoring and we’re just on the edge of our seats waiting for Sally to open the door and catch them at it. It’s a race against time. Then click, door opens and the two jump apart and it’s fecking Ric standing there. They twisted it on us again.
Superb.
steamboatsam can confirm I have had my suspicions of Charity.
It was silly to allow her free access to baby Ella.
I just hope it’s not too late for the Infant Oracle.
I have to agree with you there Bandage - with two untrustworthy sidekick cops, the stalker etc. we’ve learned to be more suspicious of secondary characters in the Bay.
Anyone out there who’s contemplating their faith and weighing up whether to join The Believers or not my advice would be to make a decision tonight and join first thing in the morning. Tomorrow promises to be a historic day for the organisation.
Also hats off to Lynne McGregor tonight. I’ve been largely indifferent on Irene in the past but that was a cracking performance in the interview room - put the cops to shame. She even managed to have a trembling lip, despite not having any lips to tremble.
I’m a bit disappointed with this storyline though.
Mama Rose breaking out of prison hospital.
Kidnapping the baby after there was already a big storyline where they kidnapped Tash and tried to deliver the baby themselves. It’s like it’s going over old ground.
A truly special scene with Mr Stewart and Sal there.
There were tears from Sal.
I’m not ashamed to say there were tears from me too.
