Tsitsipas takes the 1st set at the 7th time of asking.
It looks like a repeat of last year’s Australian Open clash where Federer was 0/12 on break points converted. Tsitsipas was 1/3.
He was 0/6 in that first set today, Tsitsipas was 1/1.
Tsitsipas breaks early in the 2nd.
Tsitsipas saves 3 break points from 0-40.
Federer gets another break point and takes it.
Tsitsipas wins in straight sets, Federer was 1/12 on break points converted, he was 0/12 against Tsitsipas in Australia.
Thiem and Zverev on now, should be a good match. Its the first time since Roland Garos 2005 that not one of the big 3 will be in a final.
Thiem is a top class player, he plays from the baseline but he really goes for things, he’s terrific to watch.
Zverev is a bit more robotic and his serve has been off this year for the most part but he’s got it going now and he will be so difficult to break in this form.
Zverev is serving well in this match.
Thiem will jump above Medvedev to the world no 4 if he wins tonight.
He has taken the first set.
Zverev chokes. What a disaster to end the set on a double fault.
Zverev is beating himself here.
Thiem is apparently under the weather here and not playing at the level he did against Djokovic and Federer.
Zverev’s second serve is a huge weakness of his.
Zverev is very mentally weak. He has the game there but he crumbles when the pressure comes on.
Thiem is playing some great stuff, should be a good final between him and Tsitsipas.
Zverev is a choker. If he can sort his head he will win slams but at the moment i can’t see him winning any of the big ones. Medvedev and Tsitipas are ahead of him.
Fantastic match this is to end the atp tour season.
Cracker.
Hope Thiem pulls it off here.
I don’t mind who wins it. I like both these players. If this keeps up there are going to be some cracking matches to look forward to next year.
I think Tsitsipas is a little petulant and underhand, didn’t like what happened earlier this year with Zverev.
In Tsitsipas hands now
Tsitsipas does it.
Australia is going to be very interesting, you could see any of the top 7 win it. Obviously you’d have question marks over whether Zverev has it mentally at the minute but the other 6 are more than capable.
Then you will have wildcards like Murray, Del Potro and Cilic outside the top 32.
