This is insane from Nadal. He is making Schwatzman look very ordinary here. A bullet down the tramline.

And another one. Wow. Vamos

Another incredible winner. Will serve out for a bagel now.

I was worried about what this might take out of Nadal but it looks like it will be a shorter match than it was last year despite the fact Nadal has lost a set.

Those last 9 games were majestic, obviously Schwartzman lost his belief after the third set but he really had Nadal worried in that match.

Schwartzmann is one of the fittest players on the tour as players of his diminutive size at 5ft 7 invariably often tend to be. You’d think having 6 years of youth on his side when faced against a veteran now into his late 30’s, Schwartzmann would have had an edge in the fitness stakes the longer the match went on. Surprising that Diego ran out of gas like that and appeared to tire so much from late in the 3rd set. I must have a look at the highlights of it tonight.

So you’re saying Schwartzman couldn’t keep it going physically for 2hrs and 45mins when he is one of the fittest players in the game whereas a near 40 year old Federer was able to keep it going 3hrs and 35 minutes?

Strange contention.

Quite obvious that when the points were short, Nadal dominated.

When the rallies went long that is where Schwartzman thrived. It wasn’t a physical collapse from Schwartzman, Nadal just drained the belief out of him.

To use a boxing analogy with regards to Nadal I think he takes a couple of rounds off to fill the lungs and goes again. In those games if he is 0-30, 0-40 down I dont think he wants to expend so much energy which makes him look ragged at times. He picks and chooses when to press and attack and when he does he is imperious.

By contrast to this.

Here is a near 40 year old Federer dominating a guy 15 years his junior in the long rallies.

Strange.

I have always had my doubts about Federer. Pulling out of French open was a huge red flag for me. What was he hiding.

What’s Federer got to do with the physical implosion of Schwartzmann?

Federer fell over the line the other night against a German journeyman who was afraid to win. It was a tightly fought match from start to finish, of somewhat low quality. The score was 7-6 6-7 7-6 7-5. It exacted such a heavy toll on his near 40 year old body and his crocked knees, he pulled out out of the tournament that night.

Koepfer is a 27 year old journeyman, ranked about 60 in the world who’s only once in his career got to the 2nd week of a Grand Slam. Federer up to about 3 years wouldn’t have dropped 6 games to him, yet alone be involved in 4 tight sets.

Schwartzmann is an elite player. World Top 10. It sounded like an extraordinary physical collapse from Schwartzmann in the latter stages of the match, for a player who should be in his physical prime at 28 and is renowned as one of the fittest out there.

I’m just contending the narrative that it was unusual Nadal outlasted one of the fittest players on tour with a 6 year age advantage.

It was factually correct as Nadal actually fared out worse in the long rallies than his younger opponent. Nadal just outplayed him.

In direct contrast it actually seems strange a near 40 year old Federer is able to outlast his opponent who is 12 years his junior. This is supported by the match stats which says the longer the shots went on the more likely Federer was to win the point.

The Federer fans are so full of hate that will hate project the very serious questions that should be asked about their boy on to the man who could soon overtake him on the slam count, without any foundation.

A comment expressing surprise about the physical implosion of Schwartzmann and the Federer haters are off on a tangent frantically googling and posting up spreadsheets about a Federer 3rd round win over a journeyman chump.

I’ve just eviscerated your idiotic contributions.

Have a bit of class and stop talking about things you are evidently ignorant of.

What a way to spend two weeks annual leave. In the bunker watching mud tennis, frothing at the mouth about Federer and consumed by hatred to such an extent you’re frantically googling spreadsheets and graphics to rationalise the Great Man beating some journeyman chump in the early rounds.

Wow.

Getting personal and nasty now because Nadal has ruined your day by making another RG semi final.

Sad little man.

I haven’t said a word about Nadal today. Well done to Nadal by the way for making another French Open semi final. You should try and actually deal with the points that other contributors make rather than the row you’d like to be having.

The only point I made was to express surprise about the physical implosion of Schwartzmann in the latter stages of the match. That caused you to have a meltdown, throw the toys out of the pram and off on a tangent as you tend to do with a vitriolic attack on Federer. Frantic googling of spreadsheets on Federer’s match the other night for whatever obscure and off the wall point it was you felt the need to make.

Djokovic cruising home here.

Berrettini hasn’t played too badly but Djokovic has just punished any loose points he has played.

Good hustle from Berrettini here

Berrettini takes the third.

He’s playing quite well all game long, Djokovic has just been retrieving winners and making very few errors but he began to let a few creep in during that tie break and the Italian capitalises.
