The Tennis Thread

:grinning:

Is it because of his success or is he a dickhead? Hard to warm to him as a spectator with a passing interest.

They say he’s a dickhead. Both Nadal and Federer hate him. Contrary to what a lot of people perceive, Nadal and Federer are good friends.

I’ve always found Djokovic quite robotic and dull to watch. Very much a counter punching player.

HRH will personally shake hands with Novak when he arrives for the Championship, the Aussies have really fucked up here

The Australian only became a serious Grand Slam in the 1990’s. Prior to that most of the top players skipped it. It’s probably reverting back to that now.

Pat Cash, Ivan Lendal, Yannick Noah all ones that brought attention to the tournament back then

Some swede too I can’t recall name of

They’ve really fucked up Novax Djocovid anyway.

Great day all round for Australia with Neil Robertson winning the snooker and the new ash cloud from the volcano in Tonga which should ensure a cooling of temperatures for the rest of the summer at least.

They missed out on Oisin Mullin but shure you can’t have everything.

Djokovic denied his usual seat for flight to Dubai

By Stephen Brook

Call it the final indignity: when Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic flew out of Australia on Sunday night he was denied his usual first class seat.

Lack of availability seems to have been the culprit, which shunted the world number one back down into business class for his 14-hour Emirates flight to Dubai.

This meant he would have been denied a private cabin, fully flat bed and shower spa with Emirates Private Collection Bvlgari amenity kit.

Booking listings show no first class tickets were available on Emirates on Sunday night, but there were some $11,500 tickets for the one-way Melbourne to Dubai flight available on Monday evening.

Presumably once in Dubai this would have been no barrier to him access the famed Emirates First Class lounge, complete with its grand entrance water fountains, shower suites and a la carte restaurant.

Djokovic arrived in Dubai about 5.30am local time for a three-hour layover before he plans to fly on to Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, Serbia, where he was due to arrive about midday, local time, on Monday.

That flight was operated by Fly Dubai, a “low cost” Dubai airline whose slogan is Get Going.

A very mean spirited and classless article.

That’s the Aussies for you.

I thought it was pretty humorous, and a bonus on top of its humour is that it offends some people who don’t have a sense of humour, which is humorous in itself.

This whole case has badly exposed the lack of a sense of humour in a lot of cap doffers.

No real shock on the top half of the draw.

The South African pair of Norrie and Harris the only seeded players to go.

Zverev looks an excellent shout for this. The top half finalist has the advantage of an extra day’s rest.

Nadal got through comfortably, should have a fairly routine second round draw but could get a little more tricky from there. He really needs to minimise his time on court until the semi-final you’d suspect but he is scheduled to meet Zverev in the quarter.

Big Reilly won the battle of the giraffes in a match that saw 34 aces in 3 sets.

Terrific first day’s play at the Open.

I think this one has the potential to be the best edition ever.

say what you like about Australian tennis - but they know how to return a Serb!

Kyrgios well on course to set up his second round clash with Medvedev.

Have they met in a slam before, seem like the pair who could have sparks fly between them.
